MyBoy! and Pizza Boy are the best apparently, but both are paid software. I hate Retroarch GUI and confusing control bindings too but I think it's still the best free option unfortunately.

    What are the current go-tos for GBA emulation on Android? I tried a couple, but all had pretty significant issues. GBA.emu didn't seem to be able to load ROMs, at least on an unrooted device. Everything retroarch based uses RetroArch's terrible UI and controls, meaning its inconvenient and you have have more non-GBA buttons on your screen when playing than GBA buttons. Visual Boy works but is slow and finicky. Are there any decent options, nonetheless any free or open source ones?

    Yeah, lack of GUI in is rather off-putting. They have so many cool graphics filters now but trying them out without ability to preview them is a PITA.

    One thing that becomes apparent when you go through the config file is that it seems that they’re making VRR displays their primary target. This is understandable given weird refresh rates old games run at, but I’m not sure how widespread is the adoption of such displays at the moment. I have a VRR TV but my computer is mainly for work so it’s a plain 60Hz there and I don’t really see a need to upgrade yet.

    From what I've heard through a game of telephone, that was almost what would've happened. The latest PS5 firmware exploit was known about by I think failoverflow's crew and they intended to sit on it and then release it after GTA 6 was released but somebody went to Sony to report it for a bounty bag of cash so it's patched in version 14.0. I'm not sure if the bounty bastard was an internal betrayal or someone external who independently found the same exploit.

    Unless someone finds a new firmware exploit before the game launches, this was an unfortunate twist of fate. That said there's now motivation, interest, and spite so maybe it'll happen after release sooner than later.

    Sheesh, the clanker fatigue and threats even hits a well organised veteran team like Dolphin.

    The amount of vibe coded slop posted on the emulation subreddit is also getting brutal. It's nearly every other post. I only really go there to yoink posts from developers who don't post elsewhere, but thankfully nobody posts the slop here. I won't count assisted projects but pure vibe slop maybe I should add a rule banning it soon? Idk.

  • Ah, okay. I'm not that big on hardware, especially when it comes to drumming. For example, would you agree that We Will Rock You is the easiest drum track (that has a drum track)? I can't get through that on any difficulty, because of endurance, and it isn't a long song, either.

    My wife can do drums, but not on a level where we've ever thought about additional hardware beyond the cymbals (which she does use and plays Pro Drums on Expert and typically gets 5/Gold stars, but isn't topping any leaderboards).

    I'm aware of Deluxe. Roll limitless is a fan made controller + midi drums adapter based on raspberry pi pico, that works with Xbox 360, and was made in part because of limitations of the official midi pro adapter. Notably, it couldn't handle fast drum rolls, among other things. I was just wondering if console emulation was good enough that I can leave the 360 in the closet

    Calling entries in a vector by a conventional name.

    Something like

    var1 = [ 2, 3, 4]

    you could swizzle to

    var2 = var1.zy

    which equates var2 to [4,3].

    Its probably something like the older molten implementations don't support out of order swizzling like that example above.

    You got a what for your 360? I assume you mean some kind of exploit like JTAG. If not, you should look into ABadAvatar. It's an Xbox profile that exploits the system via the avatar system, so, as soon as the Xbox tries to load that avatar, it exploits itself. You should absolutely take the Xbox offline before doing this, for obvious reasons. It runs with, what they call 95% efficiency, so there's a 5% chance it won't work, in which case it just tries again.

    You ever been to a convention where they were playing Rockband in the game room? Ever notice it had some "different" features, like showing the time elapsed/remaining above the score? That's not some obscure setting you missed. They're running a modded 360 and they're running Rockband 3 Deluxe on it. There are some videos on YouTube showing what it's all about... here's the 1.0 trailer. I'm sure they've added stuff since then: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dA6gn1TbmyE

    Emulation is always going to be a bit behind in latency, so I'm not too sure about that. I think I was able to hook a mic up to my Mac and sing a song, but the instruments were always gonna be a problem because RPCS3 is a PS3 emulator and I only have Xbox instruments. I didn't try any. All I could ever do was sing anyway.
