Hollycast Sega Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2 and Atomiswave emulator Sega Dreamcast Emulation Arcade/Pinball Emulation (github.com)

Hollycast is a multi-platform Sega Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2, and Atomiswave emulator, derived from Flycast, the open-source Sega Dreamcast emulator.
Mission & Philosophy

Hollycast tracks the Flycast core while providing a home for features and experiments that fall outside the upstream scope. The main reasons for this fork are to:

  • Unlock functionality: We integrate community-requested features and experimental changes that Flycast chooses not to merge.
  • Developer freedom: We provide a stable sandbox for passion features and modernizations that keep the emulator evolving.

Eden-NS2 - Nintendo Switch 2 experimental patch for Eden emulator. AI Assisted Nintendo Switch 2 Emulation (github.com)
submitted 1 week ago by to c/emulation@sh.itjust.works

An experimental fork of the Eden Nintendo Switch emulator, built on top of a community "Switch 2 support" patch, with a set of fixes that get Donkey Kong Bananza (title 040074A01BF12000, update v7.0.0) from a black screen, through its mode-select menu (60 FPS) and first load, into gameplay with the 3D world rendering, on Windows. Gameplay is slow (5-8 FPS) and in-game videos are not decoded yet.

This is a Linux only forked preview build, the main project is actually here:

Plus: Open source FPGA hardware's going to give the busy Android scene a run for its money.

Hello again! We're back, and yet another fortnight has passed without me losing the last shreds of my sanity while trying to distinguish between the shoddily assembled AI rubbish piling up in every corner of this little hobby and the good stuff that I delight in sharing with you all. Check back in two weeks' time for another exciting update!

Oh, right: There's still a newsletter to do. Well despite being weighed down by said winnowing process, I've cobbled together some cool stuff for you, including a bit of insight into how someone found a secret hiding inside one of the best games ever made and a quick check-in on some of the emulation hardware we'll be playing our games on this time next year. It's not even Android stuff!

As is often the case, though, the best stuff may be down in the Translation Station, at least if you're a fan of Puyo Puyo or strange, Bionic Commando-adjacent PS2 action games (boy, am I!!). They're blessedly AI-free, and there are more people out there still fighting the good fight. Just wait for Mermanoid and Schrodinger no Neko from some crack teams!

PS4 System Menu running in ChonkyStation4 Sony PS4 Emulation (www.youtube.com)
submitted 2 weeks ago by to c/emulation@sh.itjust.works

My PS4 emulator ChonkyStation4 can now boot the system menu (VSH)! There is still a lot that doesn't work, launching games doesn't work, trying to enter many menus in the UI causes crashes (for example the notifications). This build is currently private, instructions will be made public alongside the build in the future.

I would also like to clarify that my emulator is 100% human written, so progress might be slow.

It is hard to believe, but a quarter-century and a couple of days ago, the ScummVM Project saw its first public commit by Ludvig Strigeus aka ludde. So many things have changed, and we continue to follow our new release cadence. Without further ado,…

As an alpha release, this build is not yet considered stable.

This prerelease is intended for users to test upcoming features, allowing the community to provide feedback before they are distributed in a stable release.
Users interested in testing bleeding-edge software are encouraged to test out this build to help us catch any issues we may have missed during development.

If you are unwilling to tolerate potential issues, it may be better to wait for the next stable release.

High-level emulator for early iOS apps.

Hi everyone. Please enjoy this new release! It's the conclusion of a dreadfully long saga with threading problems. But it's also a big step forward for touchHLE in other ways, as it is finally an “iOS” emulator rather than just an “iPhone OS” one. ;)

To clarify, this was a fork of suyu that has now become the main version. I don't know why the developer used github.

This started mainly as work on suyu's experimental static recompiler for fun, but it has since expanded into fixing and improving the emulator itself as well.
Some of the bigger changes in v0.0.11

Export Game is now usable end-to-end on Windows

You can select a game in suyu and export it into a standalone package using:

Dynarmic JIT — normal emulator backend / most compatible
Hybrid JIT + AOT — precompiled code with JIT fallback
Static AOT — precompiled code only, experimental

The exported game carries over things like your graphics settings, game config and transferable shader cache, and can optionally be added directly to your Steam library.

Controllers are automatically assigned, and exported games have an F12 panel for controls and resolution scaling.

Big static recompiler performance improvement

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been the main validation target.

For the same race workload, strict static AOT went approximately:

Windows (ryzen 9950x3d+ 9070xt: 24 FPS → 56 FPS
Linux (ryzen 5600x+ 3090): 39 FPS → ~60 FPS
macOS (m5 mbp 24gb): 54 FPS → ~60 FPS

The Windows JIT baseline is still 60 FPS, so static AOT is now getting surprisingly close.

These aren't general compatibility claims as MK8D is the only title I've heavily testedbut it's a pretty significant improvement over v0.0.10.

The new ABI 6 recompiler adds fast guest-memory access, generation-based code guards and an exact native floating-point path, with fallbacks where the fast paths can't be proven safe.

Apple Silicon macOS is working again

There were several fixes around MoltenVK, GPU shutdown, threading and ARM64 behavior.

MK8D is now reaching ~60 FPS on the tested Apple Silicon setup, and some nasty 10–40 second stalls that previously dropped the emulator to 0 FPS have been fixed.

RetroArch / libretro core

v0.0.11 also includes a new Vulkan libretro core for:

Windows
Linux
macOS Apple Silicon
Android ARM64 (development build)

There's a built-in game FPS/frame-time display since RetroArch's own FPS counter can count repeated frames and isn't always representative of the game's actual frame rate.

Android

There's now an ARM64 APK as well.

Android is much less tested than the desktop builds right now. I've verified the build and run it in an Android emulator, but I don't want to claim real-device performance until more people actually test it.
Other stuff

There are a bunch of smaller improvements too:

shader cache fixes
game update handling during export
firmware support in exported games
automatic multi-controller assignment
Joy-Con combine/split support
Steam shortcut + artwork generation
Discord Rich Presence
FPS / frametime / active CPU backend shown in exported games
several Vulkan/shader fixes
Windows memory corruption / shutdown fixes
improved static coverage tracking
Hybrid runs can record missing AOT coverage for future exports
substantially better testing/benchmark tooling

Important if you used v0.0.10

Re-export any old static or Hybrid builds.

v0.0.11 intentionally rejects the older recompiler ABI rather than potentially running an incompatible export. Re-exporting also gets the new performance work and packaging fixes.
more testing

Interested in getting more testing outside of MK8D - especially different games, GPUs, macOS machines, Android devices and the new libretro core.

When reporting performance, (include the game/version, CPU/GPU, OS and which CPU backend (JIT/hybrid/static) you're using.
