Wondering how long term cognitive damage from covid is, whether it is possible to fullly recover or if there will always be permanent deficits, even in relatively mild cases(but likely multiple reinfections over the years)

The U.S.’s summer 2026 COVID-19 wave is in full swing. All disease tracking metrics report increased spread across the country, and the school year’s start and upcoming holiday weekend will cause further outbreaks. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved updated vaccines for this year, but they may be hard to access for many people thanks to Trump administration policies.

Hey; for anyone from the U. S., would you know where to get any PCR tests?

I can't tell if they're just out, now, but every place I use eventually stops selling them.

Apparently, the https://www.thehealthhub.com/ sells some, still, but their checkout page seems like a mess and keeps throwing CORS errors; https://www.labcorp.com/ seems to, as well, though I can't seem to load the site on my Wi-Fi, for some bizarre reason (loads on the phone just fine when using data, though). Regardless, the tests seem backed by 23andMe which doesn't inspire great confidence but, also, 23andMe lists their PCR tests as out of stock on their own site (so I suspect LabCorp will eventually list these as out of stock someday, as well).

Anyway, may be a long shot but figured I'd ask.

Former Biden White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator, Dr. Ashish Jha, tells Dana Bash, "When I went into the White House, my view was this was almost surely a natural outbreak, maybe a lab leak. Based on information I learned and based on information I've seen, I have come to conclude that it is more likely to have been a lab leak."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashish_Jha

Ashish Kumar Jha […] is an American general internist physician and academic who served as the White House COVID-19 response coordinator from 2022 to 2023.

My view on COVID origins isn't new — I've held it since my time at the White House

Here's the truth: no one in America knows for sure. Anyone telling you they do is selling you something

Based on strong circumstantial evidence I've seen, I think lab leak is much more likely. Not engineered. Not deliberate. Accidental

Reasonable people can look at the same evidence and disagree

“Not engineered” makes this sound like a limited hangout. Though I do tend to agree that if it was a lab leak, it wasn’t deliberate.

The website maskbloc.org hasn't been updated in a year and the email on their website seems to have been deactivated, so SEPAS (https://ni.hil.ist/@sepas/) is starting a new global directory!

the information within is unlikely to be news to anybody here, but I have found it to be rather effectively presented. it requires only five sheets of paper to print, so I've been printing them and leaving them on tables around my college campus. I've seen thirty get taken so far!

Years after the virus that causes COVID-19 kicked off a global pandemic, it’s still sending thousands of Canadians into hospital each year alongside other respiratory infections — despite a suite of vaccines that can slash someone’s risk of serious illness.

Striking new data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) shows hospitalization rates for vaccine-preventable respiratory diseases more than doubled in 2024 compared to pre-pandemic levels, all while vaccination rates are backsliding.

There were 142 hospitalizations for every 100,000 Canadians that year, the data shows, up from roughly 66 per 100,000 in 2019.

Yet seasonal vaccination uptake for both COVID and flu shots has dropped.

Federal figures suggest only 26 per cent of Canadian adults were vaccinated for COVID in 2024 — a dramatic drop from when shots were first rolled out mid-pandemic and lineups at vaccination clinics often spanned multiple city blocks.
