Norwegian here. I thought the foundation for our welfare state was laid over many years by unions fighting for their rights. And the workers party and socialist party working together on top of that for decades. The communists (AKP ML) were never a big movement.

So uh. Is speak to me and breathe (in the air) considered one or two tracks here? The joke hits very different if it refers to Time or On The Run.

They were supposed to move the same way. There was an issue with the signaling somehow so they had red lights, but the traffic controller overrode it by telling them to go. Had both trains started moving instead of just the back one this wouldn't have happened.

According to what I have read in Norwegian media: It was human error. The traffic controller said both should proceed at normal speed. The stationary train in the front told the controller that they were unable to start the train. But this message didn't end up relayed to the train gunning towards it. The procedure was also that the trains should run at 40 kmh when there was the signal issue that was there. But they were told to use normal speed which is 320 kmh.

An ssl certificate provider used 4 as their private key. This should be hundreds of characters long. Somebody figured this out and was able to issue their own certificates based on it. This results in loss of trust in their certificates which is a big deal.

It is compared as bigger than one of the largest security issues in IT the last couple of years since it forces everybody to patch their shit to not trust this certificate chain. And lots of stuff aren't patched that easily.

Norway here. We have 18 and 20. The kids aren't drinking the same way we did now though. They start later and not as heavily. I think that is a good thing. But yeah, I guess you have a point. We drank more and more beer and wine as well, if we could get hold of it. But money was an important factor. Moonshine was so much cheaper. A bottle of the stuff and half a liter of soda and you had enough for the entire night. So I think I would have chosen it a lot anyway before I got older and had more of a disposable income.

I started drinking at age 16 on pure 96% moonshine. Got absolutely blackout legless hammered every time. I drank it because it was the easiest to get hold of and way cheaper than any other alcohol. Almost died the rock star death of choking in my own puke a couple of times. When I got to 18 and was allowed to buy it I switched to mostly beer and wine. Still got blackouts every now and then since, up through my 20s, but not anywhere near to the levels I was at in the beginning. I think that was both attributed to knowing my limits and maturing a tiny bit. Now in my 40s I hardly ever drink a beer and even one gives me quite a buzz.

Not sure if I would have had the same experience if moonshine was legal.

I am a total newbie on home automation. Last year I tried adding a zigbee dongle to my home server and setting up home automate. I got so far as to pairing a couple of light bulbs throughout the house to propagate the signal. I have bought a few temp/air quality sensors that are still in the box. But I kind of burned out feeling home automate was too complicated for me.

Jump to now. I bought a Homey Pro as an early Christmas gift to myself and have connected the light bulbs as well as my outdoor sun blinds. This weekend the sensors are going up.

Cut to my questions. Now that I have access to a bunch of different protocols, is zigbee the right way to go? What I don't like is that I cannot see the status of my bulbs. If the physical light switch is turned off homey loses control. Would this behaviour be better if I went for zwave or matter (or something else)?

I feel this is the time to choose what I really want to go for. I think the zigbee stuff will be kept as I believe the sensors should work fine(?) and it would be a waste to just scrap them.

Things I am considering adding down the line:

    • smart light switches/dimmers
    • Presence detection in rooms to control lights?
    • Thermostats for our in floor heating water loops (I have so far only found zwave for this). Must work physically as well.
    • door and window sensors
    • Outdoor security cameras
    • Outdoor light sensor for better control of the sun blinds
    • Water sensors under the washing machine and sinks
    • Smart plugs for things like heated blanket

I guess these are very different use cases. And I am open to mix and matching a bit. And things like security cameras is propably logical to use a connectable service for?

What would you choose if you were able to start over? The only caveat is that it must be supported by the Homey.

Other tips in general are also welcome!
