Looks like part of the canvas is gauzily showing through in the lighter parts of the sky? Dunno if it was always intended like that or a preservation issue but either way it really adds to the ominous atmosphere.

Now, I'm wondering whether there's collaborative art projects out there that use git. It'd be hard for raster images as git just stores them as blobs (not preserving layers, brush strokes, etc) but I could see it working using it a vector format like .svg. It's just text so after all so you could do diffs.

Your art style is intriguing. Do you start with the dialog/story first and then draw the pictures to accommodate the words? Or the other way around? A mixed of both perhaps?

Krita has a magnetic lasso tool for this. I think gimp has one too.
