This sounds like a very focused single purpose ai, I’d be surprised if this had anything to do with LLMs.

Nothing wrong with it, but I think BBC’s framing as a positive ai story feels a bit forced when nobodies had any problem with this kind of ai in the first place

more than half of all pollution incidents last year were caused by blockages or vandalism, which are not in the direct control of the water companies

They’ve owned the infrastructure for quite some time, I don’t think they get to claim innocence if the sewers aren’t able to handle blockages at such a rate that it’s common.

And I bet that the “vandalism” mention is just muddying the water (if you’ll forgive the pun) and hoping that nobody asks for figures.

Urgh yeah, the absolute social misplay of using someone’s decision to be productive as an excuse to badger them about how rarely they are productive.

Like, this is human interaction 101, don’t punish good behaviour, bite your tongue and enjoy the win, save the discussion for when they aren’t being productive!

Hey now, C isn’t the only language with this problem, I’m a proud c++ dev and I assure you we get it regularly too. You just find our freedoms uncomfortable because they cause so much destruction and harm, but if you only understood the pure bliss of being allowed to do any terrible thing we can think of, you’d understand that it’s worth all the problems it causes!

Blind and deaf scientists develop amazing new way to “touch” a drone from 50 feet away using vibrations travelling through the air. “It’s like we’re sensing it from a distance”.

New technique could potentially be developed further to allow people to communicate beyond their reach, potentially even from different (neighbouring) rooms in a house!

I do agree that condensing an encyclopedia to a limited size and keeping the most significant information was a very difficult art that was performed admirably by the old encyclopaedias.

I however think it’s an art that would be innappropriate and harmful if applied to Wikipedia.

Just because you can condense the information doesn’t mean you should. Encyclopaedias are not for reading through, so limited length was an artificial limitation imposed by the printed format not for any good reason.

I’m sure there’s articles that go on a bit about irrelevant minutia, and they should be trimmed, but that’s an article specific flaw.

FWIW I think I misremembered the accuracy point, looks like most studies have put it similar or slightly lower accuracy. Citation needed I guess.
