Hate for south Asians in particular is very much on the rise. Go on literally any mainstream app and find a video featuring canada you'll find awful racist comments under the video. A lot of those are bots, but the point of those bots are to turn people with neutral opinions on indians into negative opinions. Those who are not careful with their algorithms get pushed channels that exclusively push any antisocial news about immigrants exclusively. Right now if you lurk in conservative spaces you'll see a common narrative that people aren't wearing poppies anymore because immigrants don't understand and the government is going to replace rememberance day with Diwali. Ignore that properganda at your peril, its clearly organized and it's going to have some effect.

My wife used to get hate because she was Muslim, now she gets hate because she is Indian looking. It's obviously and decidedly worse than it was 10 years ago, especially in the workplace unfortunately.

They are much more durable than you think. The hinge absorbs impacts really well so they are much more likely to survive falls, the inner screen scratches easily but since it is closed when not in use thats not really a concern. I do wish mine didnt have the outer screen since I barely use it, but I find the larger screen is really useful in general.

Here's an article from 1999 when the polio sugar cube vaccine was discontinued in the US. It extremely rarely causes you to get polio, it caused 10 cases a year in the US over the 20years it was in use:

"Both vaccines protect the individual very well. The difference is that the oral polio vaccine is easier to administer and is better to use in an epidemic setting, which is what we had in the 1950s and 1960s," CDC spokeswoman Barbara Reynolds said.

"Now, with no epidemic polio in this country, it's perfectly legitimate to move to an inactivated polio vaccine," she said.

For context Polio is still extremely rare in the US for now (1 case in 2022). While i think vaccine hesitancy would be way lower with an oral vaccine, I think the cons really outweigh the benefits in this case... for now

The government is budgeting $2 billion over eight years with a target of retrofitting one million homes.

Households below the median income level can get up to $10,000 back on a heat pump purchase, while other homeowners can get $2,000 by switching to a heat pump.

Ottawa is in the process of winding down an existing program to subsidize purchases of heat pumps for homes heated with oil. As of March, the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program helped to install more than 30,000 heat pumps across the country.
