One animal per person per year for cattle. Compared to the number of field animals killed by harvesting machines for people who eat wheat or drink beer. And I'd prefer to eat retired dairy cattle if they were available, and those have a good life, as the slightest problem stops them giving milk

No one cares if you eat meat

How can you have visited this community and think that? We post a science paper saying it's healthy to eat meat and it will attract more down votes than this community ever sees in up votes

There are comments above yours in this thread telling us we're as bad as cannibals, or cause global warming

I notice that you "who doesn't care what we eat" down voted this post, along with five others who presumably don't have a problem with us

You sound like the half a percent of people who eat only meat, who don't eat more meat than the average omnivore, but do eat the fat are responsible for global warming

We tend to be more careful of the meat we buy than average too, avoiding feed lot animals and those feed grains as they have the wrong balance of fats

Have you looked at how the fertilisers for plants are made? They aren't green. They aren't carbon neutral like beef is.

Completely right. In history, the zero carb diet suited everyone who tried it or was forced into it for a summer, as no one is intolerant of fresh fatty meat. Also this forced on it for a summer (of exploration of fur trading for example) all for they liked it after a week or 3 adaptation

I'm disappointed that /r/zerocarb now seem not moderated and people are writing stuff that was certainly against the rules before. It was a subreddit for help and advice for people using that diet, so advice to eat more carbs is well off topic

One counterexample is supposed to knock over a theory. Black swans are so iconic that counterexamples are called a black swan events

You'd think that the "lean mass hyper responder" studies that showed that high fat diets do not cause heart disease, that high LDL is not associated with heart disease, yet it is still standard to treat LDL in the hope it will prevent a heart attack

I was reminded by this passage from Stefanssan's The Fat of the Land pg 79, in the chapter about his and his friend Andersen were being studied on the meat only diet by dietician doctors in Bellevue Hospital, New York

Returning to facts, we have the ominous one that a pneumonia epidemic was sweeping New York. The hospital was crowded with patients; some of the staff got the disease, and with them Andersen. It was Type II pneumonia in his case and the physicians were gravely worried, for this type was proving deadly in the epidemic, carrying off fifty per cent of its Bellevue victims. Andersen, however, reacted quickly to treatment, the disease ran an unusually short course, and he convalesced rapidly.

Not that I've had anything as bad as that, just the common respiratory bugs that go around. The latest one was a systemic cold that came with a fever and tiredness. People found they were unwell for a week. I caught it and was feeling a little unwell for about 6 hours.

Back on the regular diet I caught every bug going around and suffered worse from them most people around me. Now after 4 years eating this way I don't notice most (can't say whether I caught them or not) and those I do notice are so much less bad than for everyone else.

    Gout and zero carb (aussie.zone)

A co-worker messaged the team last week "I sprained my ankle or something, I'll rest up and be back at work next week"

I said to myself "that'll be gout".

So 6 days later she's back at work and tells us it was gout. I replied "that sucks, I used to get gout and it hurt"

She PMs me "used to?" I tell her it's been all good since zero carb except when I accidentally have sugar

She quizzed me for an hour about what her doctor told her versus my experience. I think I might have a new zero carber on my team

It's a shame that allopurinol ended gout research in the '50s

Though I don't want to test the last part (getting fat to increase chances of surviving winter) I decided to test the first bit as an n=1 uncontrolled experiment

While completely satisfied on pemmican I ate a mandarin orange. It immediately caused massive food noise for more of the same. It made me hungry enough to eat the pemmican I had left on my plate as well as another piece

No surprise that the modern western diet makes people obese, it's like perpetual summer

Do seed oils block cholesterol to vitamin D? Vitamin D as sunscreen Sunburn resistance of people who don't eat seed oils

Summary by Google's LLMIn this video clip from Low Carb Down Under, Dr. Paul Mason presents a theory linking the consumption of industrial seed oils to a higher susceptibility to sunburn

    Key Arguments and Claims:

    • Vitamin D as Natural Sunscreen: Dr. Mason states that the body naturally vitamin D as a protective shield against UV/UVB radiation damage to DNA, rather than strictly for bone health
    • The Cholesterol Connection: He references Ancel Keys' historical "Seven Countries Study", highlighting a data point that individuals with higher sun exposure had lower blood cholesterol levels. He explains this occurs because the body uses cholesterol to synthesize vitamin D
    • Interference by Plant Sterols: He argues that plant sterols (phytosterols) absorbed from dietary seed oils interfere with normal cholesterol chemistry, specifically disrupting the skin’s ability to synthesize vitamin D
    • Anecdotal Evidence: While acknowledging the evidence is largely anecdotal, he points out that a vast number of individuals on ketogenic internet forums report a noticeable resistance to sunburn after completely eliminating seed oils from their diet.

My partner needed steak for a family dinner, so following my style she bought a whole porterhouse, and they ate about half of it

She eats low fat. Bulk meat comes untrimmed so has much more than supermarket or even butcher cuts

But it seems fair enough, easier for her and her mum to cut it off than for me to add fat

I just spent two weeks in tropical Cairns, Australia, a few of those days were out in the sun, snorkeling, fishing, bush walking. So I decided to test what I figured was a myth of meat making you proof against sunburn. I skipped sunscreen.

A light tan is supposed to be about SPF4 (Sun protection factor 4, stay in the sun 4x as long without burning, sunscreen is usually above SPF50) and my face, arms and legs had a little tan left over from summer. My back, chest, stomach, and shoulders were northern European white.

Two hours snorkeling was enough to get my shoulders burned enough to peel, my back got lightly burned. I guess I didn't point my stomach at the sun much. That's less burning than last time I spent a couple of hours in the sun with my shirt off, so I think there was some protection.

My friend I was traveling with told me that my face was bright red, I could see the red in my arms, but that all just turned to tan.

Last time I got burned enough to peel, it hurt. This time, it just itched as it peeled and felt very hot if I pointed that part of me at the sun for a couple of days.

While fishing I had my arms in the sun, with the un-tanned inside of my right arm getting hours of sunlight. That reddened, but didn't burn enough to peel. and now more of the inside of my right arm is tanned.

    My thoughts:

    • You burn about as quickly
    • It hurts a lot less
    • You can get a bit more sun without it peeling
    • Once you get tanned you really don't get burned anymore
    • If you tan and you spend time outside you'll tan as soon as the sun gets above 50 degrees above the horizon. For me that's early Spring for minutes a day through to mid summer where it's hours a day.
    • You can get through a mid-summer day's UV with a deep tan.

To lots of people with episodes outside, or doing outside sport as the low sun of early spring turns into the high sun of summer, so solar UV dose slowly rises over months it would seem like immunity, getting tanned before burning enough to peel.

But if you go from nothing to hours under the summer sun meat won't be enough to protect whichever part of you is most pointed at the sun, but it will make the damage less severe and heal quicker, since unnecessary swelling will be suppressed.

I like pixel phones, I have had them since they were Nexuses. When the 9 came out and I needed to upgrade I chose the pro fold

The bad first: I'm typing this on my pixel 3 because the 9 pro fold is in bubble wrap in a box waiting for a courier to take it back to Google. Worse, this is the second 9 pro fold I have put in a box with an RMA note to go back. Both died the same way, about 6 months old the inner screen broke along the fold line.

The good: they agreed to replace it pretty quickly when I selected to communicate by message, they took over a month though when I requested a call

I updated my server from fabric 1.21.3 to vanilla 1.21.7 directly just recently and have noticed that my skeleton spawner farm is now killing unarmoured skeletons rather than leaving them on half a heart

    1. Is this a bug, or a bugfix?
    2. Is anyone else having this problem?
    3. Is this just a problem that happens when going from fabric to vanilla? The skeleton spawner was created by a mod which is no longer running.

I can't see anything relevant in the changes or bugfixes of the releases after 1.21.3

My workaround is to raise the landing floor by 1 block which has returned the farm to normal functionality
