30 years of neckbeards naively insisting that web services should be free.

Why. You were off to a great start.

I'm one of those neckbeards and web services should be free, as in a social service. So should potable drinking water.

Paying for a social service with money voluntarily or with your own data is not a really a choice between providers, it's an admission that we should, in fact, all remain essentially cattle.

Can't I call out the hypocrisy?

Sure, but this is politics. All the bad things and the good things are true at the same time. If you try to make a scorecard of the lies and the truths, it will never end.

Are the Americans meddlesome? Yes. Is it terrible that the current administration ended WHO support and overseas medical assistance programs? Also yes.

We cannot have pure discourse, it doesn't exist.

Migrated my storage from an old xeon-d to an arm SBC w 4GB ram and a sata hat. Performance is great, ZFS keeps up with all tasks, and less than a third of the power consumed. Backup scripts are running nightly without issue.

I am continually astounded by how well ZFS performs, even 15 years after I starting working with it. 4GB is enough for a mirror.

I've had two UAP AC AP Lite access points for 8 years now. After fooling with WiFi for so long before, Unifi was just a "set and forget" kind of solution.

Two days ago, the repo signature for the Debian unifi network controller became a pain point for apt, or apt started not being OK with it, or whatever.

Since I was on the fence about putting openwrt on these for a while, I took it as a sign and finally did it.

No more roaming problems, strong signal, responsive performance, wtf??... I'm not buying any more ubiquiti overpriced garbage. If it won't run an open platform like openwrt, it's not going into my infra.

    That is all.

I have been using xfce since 2006 and still do.

However, I'm increasingly concerned that xfce will not "make the cut" to Wayland, or that there just isn't enough dev momentum to get th e xfce stack into a working state under Wayland.

Are there any wayland-compatible DE/compositor/windowing systems that will:

    • allow me to setup my floating window metaphor the way I want
    • have the same "stay out of the way" philosophy

Are any other xfce users here thinking this also?

I said "floating window metaphor", but I actually don't mind trying a tiling compositor like sway, all suggestions are welcome here, as well as any discussion on this topic of "what next?"
