I stopped reading at "fun toy".

There's always some shill willing to go "yeah this steals people's work, mangles it and spews bullshit back at them, all while destroying the environment, to make a few dudes richer. It's nuanced". 🙄

Not so much as "no AI slop" but "here's something built by someone you clearly despise due to their background outdoing you without requiring a right-wing techbro circle of investers". Simply put: defiance in the face of a woefully corrupted industy. Or just pure old school "fuck you" vibes. Take your pick.

Bloody hell, I love this ✊

Could be because nobody on your instance is following any omicron.blog users. As I understand federation, there needs to be an existing connection for your instance to look up the other site in searches?

I could be wrong, but new/small instances are often omitted in searches.

Okay, now imagine your fee for a Mullvad subscription being funneled into a neo-Nazi movement. Not something out of history books; people actively, currently working to oppress, expatriate, and in the final measure kill people that don't look or think like themselves.

And you'll be complicit because you weighed your "security" over what your VPN company stands for and supports.

They showed you who they are, believe them the first time. Don't subsidize white supremacists.

a horseshoe party. They present a mix of politics that's mostly very left leaning except for their views on immigration

Yeah, except for that last bit... That's Nazi enough for me to annull whatever leftwing airs they put on. Also, that "horseshoe" theory of politics is a centrist fantasy.

There are some things you only have to do once for the stink to stick forever.

All you need to know is in the first sentence of your post. If you realise what Nazis are, and what supporting them in 2026 means... you wouldn't shrug and say "does it matter?"

Do you require any particular features from Obsidian or Logseq? If not, what you need may just be a synced, shared folder and a naming convention for your notes.

For my personal use (which is, admittedly, less complex than a collaborative note system) I simply sync a folder across devices, using Syncthing. Markdown files are sorted by subject into subfolders. I can them open them in my editor of choice on the given device and platform.

Again, this may be too bare bones for what you have in mind, but sometimes when advanced services don't quite work out, it can be worth a try to scale back to the simplest DIY method and build from that.

I'd go one step further: vibecoding is shitting on people's labour.

All of the training material ingested and garbled by those models? Other people's labour.

Every vibed and slop project? Sucking out the oxygen from actual people's work.

I completely agree with your last paragraph. While I'm no developer, I've followed FLOSS development for decades, and I'm exhausted by the tsunami of crap put out by suckers with the coding version of a sausage machine.

By Emily Bender and Timnit Gebru, timely and thoughful as ever:

Claims of incipient, dangerous superintelligence are not based in good scientific or engineering practice. Rather, they are narratives based in ideologies of transhumanism, eugenics, and wishful thinking about imagined future digital humans.

    […]

the illusion of speed and urgency promulgated by the tech companies is also a ploy to misdirect both policymakers and the public. Unfortunately, it sometimes works, such as with Senator Bernie Sanders’s well-meaning but ultimately misguided proposed legislation to prevent the development of “artificial superintelligence.”

Describing them as “superintelligence” or “rogue models” ascribes agency to products rather than to the companies building them. This framing markets these companies’ products as “superhuman” and, at the same time, helps the companies evade accountability for their actions.

I haven't heard a peep about the security status of AUR since the headlines about malware injections into thousands of packages. I've ensured that none of my installed software is affected by the attack (to the best of my ability), but I've held off on my regular yay -Syu since then. What has you all done to keep your machine updated but clean?

And is there any update from AUR maintainers that the situation is under control? Most of my installed AUR packages simply don't exist in the official Arch repos, so if not I'd have to look for other sources.

I've used LineageOS with microG on my Oneplus 6 for years — so happily, in fact, that I haven't bothered with major updates since version 17 (Android 10). Oops!

Now I've been flashing updates to an older phone, and I might as well continue getting my daily driver up to date. I'm going to dirty flash my way up to the current version (21). But I'm rusty as all heck, and the upgrade instructions seem to have changed since last:

    1. Back in '21 I recall being recommended to disable screenlock (fingerprint/PIN/pattern, etc) before upgrading. Is that still a thing?
    2. With a/b slot devices it used to be necessary to flash ROMs twice or use a copy-partitions or simiilar zip file. The instructions make no mention of it, is that rolled into the upgrade package now?
    3. Finally, is it safe to just upgrade directly from LOS/mG v18 to v21? Because neither LOS main or the mG branch seem to archive older versions but I'd hate to miss some system update or other.

    All help is appreciated!

Edited for clarity: Please don't offer suggestions on "better" phones or OSes — my question regards the above only. Thanks in advance 👍
