Yeah you are right, posting a youtube link was a bad call from op, even the rules on the forum frown on it. (First rule even!) A better approach would have been a summary or article with the important points.

And I have to be fair with you.... you guessed right. The video is too long, I had to skip a lot since they were repeating the same things over and over. Worse part is that, my awareness pitch, fell flat. I just checked the comments in the video, half of the section reads like this:

"I wont buy from LG anymore" "FuckLG" "Thas why i don't use tvs"

They didn't understand that the problem is bigger than one brand or device, that there's a whole system behind this. Nor the irony of being horrified of spying software while signed to google services.

Sigh.. maybe i shouldn't rush to be a devil's advocate anymore... it always bites me back.

Anyways, I still think is important to reach people where they are, and youtube videos should help, it has reach and its were the more oblivious guys are. Although, it would have been really really nice from them to host it in a less hostile platform for everyone else.

Now like you, i will end my rant here. Loved yours, even if it was a little spicy, which may have offended some people. But there was truth there, and for me at least, made me reconsider some things.

Cheers!

This! Good advice! I went this path last year so i can give some extra advice for everyone who wants to start:

Before doing anything, buy a new router and put your iot devices and phones in a isolated guest network. Maintain the router updated. After that, you can work, learn and test without fear. Everything stays in your home.

Then like @webghost0101@sopuli.xyz already said, once you get confident, you can run a vpn tunnel to access your lan. This setup is pretty robust, hard to fuck up, and doable even for newbies. (If i can do it, everyone can, i assure you). Lots of guides out there.

Last advice, which you should already be doing, but setup a backup.

Look you are right, but everything that promotes awareness about privacy it's a plus in my book.

Being the devil's advocate, nexus gamer is not a privacy channel. They are a tech one that started doing some journalism and they seem to be new to the privacy side of things. This story come about after the monitor ad pop stuff.

Related rant: For me phones are way more scary, they are everywhere, and you have no control on your friends and family devices. You can´t ask everyone to buy pixels and install graphene os on them.

I would agree pretty much with you, but OP posted this 13 hours ago. In ten hours only one person replied and only had a similiar issue about one of the points.

Kubuntu is no a popular distro of choice within the gaming space so i doubt it will easy to find someone who can help to troubleshoot their problem. Also i think i read somewhere that Ubuntu had some problems with 32 bit libraries. I may be wrong tho.

As i replied on another comment, changing distro will probably be the fastest way to solve or at least diagnostic the problem. It's probably extreme but better than nothing. I would also try the flatpak version first.

As other replies told you, trying another distro to check will probably be the fastest way to solve the problem. I don't think many people have experience with Kubuntu.

If you don't want to change distros, you could try the flatpak version, it has their own package of drivers, and runs in a different runtime.

Just know that the flatpak of steam is not official but a community project. I had used it before without problems but i like to be clear about it.

I’m forced into this box that is my subscribed feed or I have to actively search out new communities because all is just a political circle jerk that I don’t care about.

Come on, this is not a problem. It's a feature. As another user said in another reply, having a algorithm curating your feed ends up curating you. It's even easier here than on reddit since you can even block whole instances! Block the ones that have the most political communities and you will be fine.

I agree with you on one thing, the lack of content on topics that are not tech or political related. But that falls on us, the users. I hope more communities will continue to grow in the future.

Not to mention the moment I came back I saw a fucking flow chart on the instances drama of the week.

I don't know, for me at least, it has been pretty funny, especially these days. You enter fediverse@lemmy.world, see the big pinned thread that says "Don't whine", and then hundreds of people whining. It gives me a chuckle.

When our parents say they want to be our friends, that’s nice. But we better also respect them as teachers. Totally equalizing them is demeaning them and arrogant of us. When Jews say they want to be everyone’s friends and allies, that’s nice. But Gentiles better also give them respect as their teachers.

The first time I read this kind of nonsense I thought it was a joke, then that it was an exception. Now I know, that I was being naive. Even now, I had to check it because i couldn't believe that it was real.

It would be good if true, for a privacy first chat, asking for your phone number is the first and biggest red flag.

Someone knows how Delta Chat handles the spam problem? Or spam is only a problem that comes with wider adoption?

This is probably my fault, I will explain.

I wrote in the op that i tend to skip leagues. Well, my friends tell me that the ones i skip are the good ones and the ones i play the bad ones. Just so you get an idea... I played Bestiary and Synthesis, skipped Expedition and Sentinel. Also played Kalandra but skipped Mirage... Every time I played a league Reddit exploded in how bad the league was lol.

Still, I'm enjoying it, coming back after a year has been really enjoyable, but my friends that play every league had a similar experience to you.

Although I'm surprised about the player retention, this felt like an easier league for casuals, lots of power creep, easier crafting, etc.

I have been enjoying voyages, but i don't try to make an efficient setup nor i engage with the tile mechanic..... I just make a circle or snake and go through it. Probably inefficient, but i don't want to engage with the tiles mechanics, way too tedious. Why would they re-introduce them after Synthesis push-back is a mystery to me. I may watch a guide to see how worth the tedium of fishing tiles and borders is, but for now, I pass.

Anyways, i will probably play for 2 months and then try poe2, which i haven't play since 0.1 launch also excited to try!

I love Debian, I use it as a desktop and it's installed on all my machines, but it has some problems/quirks that make it hard to recommend it for desktop usage.

First one is that it doesn't have sensible defaults, the OS expects a user who is an admin, one who will configure things to their liking. I would consider this to be a feature, if it weren't for the second problem, the documentation. The documentation is wayy too dated, lots of pages in the wiki haven't been updated since Debian Buster days!

A better recommendation would be probably a Debian derivative like MX Linux. They are more opinionated, but as far as I know, they come with better defaults and offer newer guides, documentation, etc.

In the process of trying to engage more with niche communities here on lemmy, I bring you the most fine and common post you will ever find.

As the tittle says I want to hear your thoughts, drops you had, or whatever you want about this first week of the league.

    I will go first.

For an old but casual player like me, its has been a really great league start.

I tend to skip a few leagues. I don't remember such a smooth one. The campaign has been really smooth, maybe too smooth. Between the chest from the league and the socket color change it has been really easy to go through.

Also while i have read complaints about loot on the first days, for me voyages and charts had been great. Maybe it's because i don't juice maps too much. Both the charts and voyage reminds me of alch and go, you don't think, just put the chart and go blow things.

Bonus track: I had my first event in a lot of years of poe, i vendored a body chest while i was in the final part of crafting it. Luckily i'm so bad at it that it was trash by any standards, but it stung me a lot, it was MY trash.

The Crypto AG story shows that the location of a company doesn't matter that much. The US simply made legal what they were already doing behind the scenes. Intelligence services have always been and still are above the law.

Hi there, i have a few questions about GL-Mt3000 and Openwrt.

Context Wall fell free to skip:

    spoiler

I bought a year ago a Gl-Mt3000 and have been using it as a home router since then.

It was fantastic, since the interface is really easy, i put all my iot on a guest network, my family cellphones on another and activated Adguardhome with little knowledge needed.

Now, i wanted to start learning a bit more, so i decided to host the dns sinkhole (Adguard Home) by myself on my main network.

I more or less got it working, it shouted a few errors but it worked. My problem is that the iot devices on the guest network can't access it.

Tinkering with the gl-inet interface i was able to proxy all dns request to the Adguard server, but since they are redirected from the router i lose the statistics since every query appears as if it was done by the router itself.

From what i read, there are ways to make the udp 53 port reach the guest network but it flew a bit over my head, and i don't know how touching luci will mess with the gl-inet interface. Edit: You can easily do this through the gl.inet interface, on the tab called port forwarding, you can forward between zones, not only to the internet, i don't know why it didn't occurred to me. In my defense i wasn't able to google either. Maybe it was too obvious.

    Questions:

Is there any benefit to host AdguardHome outside the router? I did it to learn, but i don't know if it has any advantages.

I plan to learn openwrt and flash the router to vanilla openwrt. My reasons are that:

    • I feel restricted by the gl-inet interface.
    • Gl-inet doesn't seem to update too frequently their firmware.
    • I'm worried their custom software will cause problems if i tinker Luci too much.
    • I think it will easier to learn the vanilla version than a custom version.

Does all of this make sense? Do you think is worth to spend time on this?

Hi there, In my search to learn a bit more about Linux, i came across this website called "OverTheWire", which teaches basic and some advanced concepts over SSH. It seems like a fun and engaging way to learn.

However, as a bit of a paranoid beginner when it comes to Linux and networking, i find myself worrying about the potential dangers of connecting to an untrusted network.

    So, my questions are:

    1. Does anyone have any experience with the website?

    2. In the hypothetical case that I open an SSH connection to a compromised network, could that expose me to attacks? (Aside from obvious risks like downloading malicious files myself.)

    3. Should I use a virtual machine (VM) for this?

I sincerely appreciate any responses. Thank you!
