Yeah, I'm honestly scared for the next generation.

Everything thier peers are doing is cooking thier mental health and cognitive skills. Smart Phones, Social Media, Chatbots, and short form videos. I have banned my kid from those things, and it's made me the kill joy. To my kid, their peers, to most other parents, the only people who seem to appreciate it as a whole are the teachers.

But if you wouldn't give your kid a substance with those outcomes, then why are you letting them use a technology with them?

But the parents are also on those technologies and its hidden those realities from them. I've quit all ad supported social media because it actively manipulates you. And its very good at it, and it gives zero shits how that affects you. Its doubly destructive on teens without fully formed frontal lobes.

And I don't think the solution is banning kids from the internet. I think the solution is regulation of the practices, just because they're extra destructive for kids doesn't mean its okay for adults.

I love how they don't rule out people who can't figure out a printed url. I certainly couldnt partner with someone who needs instructions on how to use a link.

Why wouldnt you just use a qr code?

This war is being incredibly mismanaged on every level in the US. There's no strategy, there's no objective, there's no plan.

Food quality is dropping because they didn't plan, this isn't about front line troops where there's supply line issues due to enemy actions.

This is all self inflicted. It should be a scandal of incompetence.

I probably dont have the gene, but I dont feel cool for not clicking an ad. What I mostly feel is rage that the promotions are so obviously geared towards getting the potentially addicted to try it by offering $100's of free (bonus) bets.

And at the end they have the audacity to mention a helpline.

The shape of the final fruit leaves me unconvinced that its not a black raspberry.

Without leaves or an angle peering into the top from where the stem was removed, its basically impossible to confirm my suspicioms. But something in my gut says um, actually.

I tried planting edible landscaping this year, but it's been working pretty poorly. I think I need figure out a better way to communicate the expectations with pedestrians.

So far 2 Cantaloupes have been taken well before ripening, an unripe green pumpkin was taken, an unripe bell pepper was taken, and they aren't touching the ripe tomatos or strawberries. So I'm very confused.

Maybe I'm expecting them to have too high of a base knowledge of garden plants? I may just move the garden inside the fence and build a small pantry instead.

Cantaloupe on a counter sliced in half being measured as having a 8.25" diameter.

For the 250th anniversery of America (honestly, vomit) the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Natural Areas and Preserves is reconstructing the maps and transcribing surveyor notes from the 1800s to create an interactive map of Ohio's presettlememt habitats.

I'll be sure to post an update once the map is out.

    Falling Object? (lemmy.world)

I have no photos or videos, but I was on Topsail Island on vacation on June 4th around 11pm, where I saw a decently bright moving object erupt with a huge v-shaped tail for atleast 30 seconds. The tail was a faint green color. It fell from the eastern sky into the northeastern sky.

Google has been particularly unhelpful. Was wondering if you fine folks had any idea. I'm assuming space debris. But I cant find any other reports of anyone seeing it.
