This may be one of those cases where the cure can become as harmful as the disease, but to do anything about it would mean making really controversial grey-zone decisions about where the line is drawn. Which nobody wants to make, so the cure can get administered long past the point where it does more harm than good.

I've always wondered why bomb threats are taken so seriously... How many times has a bomb threat proved real? How many bombers risk their lives to make and plant a bomb and then just call and say "I'll use it but only if you can't find it within an hour -- fair's fair"?

This is closer to the truth than you think. The guy was not ok.

When Vlad was kept prisoner in Hungary on charges of heresy, it is said that even in his cell he caught rats and small birds and impaled them on tiny sticks

And I understand he post-processed the hell out of it, dodging and burning the film as far as it would allow him in order to make the details on the moon be just as visible as those of the buildings below.

The Addams family is supposed to be the opposite of a normal family in everything. So they're the opposite of a "normal" disengaged husband and nagging wife who've long lost all traces of love for each other.

An official looking comment asking OP to confirm they are not a bot, IIRC. I followed the link and it went to a page that just said 'ok' or something like that.

I was fooled, I thought it was an account affiliated with the community, judging by its name.

From Wikipedia: According to Serebriakova, the winter came early in that year, there was a lot of snow, but it was warm in the house, so "she started to paint herself in the mirror, entertaining by drawing different small things from her dressing-table".

Here's a great video describing the context of the painting and Zinaida's rather tragic life that followed this happy moment.

    Other paintings by her:

The patch is small, about a fingernail in size.

Elsewhere on the packet they used two colors of ink: a very dark blue (this) and a lighter blue. I expected it to be some kind of alignment pattern, but only one of the inks seems to have been used here, so that's not it...

What is it for, why would they bother printing it? An ink+paper resolution/absorption test?

I was idly browsing browser (heh) market share graphs when I noticed there was a bump for Chrome in Asia.

None of the obvious countries had it, but I eventually traced it back to unlikely Vietnam. What happened there?! Why did Chrome crush all other browsers in may all of a sudden?

Previously, a yield strength of 5,000 pounds per square inch (psi) was enough for concrete to be rated as “high strength,” with the best going up to 10,000 psi. The new UHPC can withstand 40,000 psi or more.

The greater strength is achieved by turning concrete into a composite material with the addition of steel or other fibers. These fibers hold the concrete together and prevent cracks from spreading throughout it, negating the brittleness. “Instead of getting a few large cracks in a concrete panel, you get lots of smaller cracks,” says Barnett. “The fibers give it more fracture energy.”
