It's clearly stated in the article.

KDE plans to tackle that through two already ongoing projects: Ocean and Union. Ocean is the new design system, while Union is intended to provide a unified theming engine across applications, Plasma, window decorations, and Plasma Login Manager.

Would it be possible to change how Summit names its backups? Right now they're not "order by name" friendly.

To make them so, they should:

    • be prefixed with summit (so it doesn't bundle with backups from other apps that also don't prefix their names)
    • use ISO date format (so the month is always before the day)

Especially the last one would be nice. I just did some cleanup and thought my last backup wasn't there as it was not the last one (by name) in the file list.

I was shocked too! I feared they were going to make him lost it before he could use it... It would have make more sense if he used it inside the shop.

I enjoy this anime even though characters are sometimes stupid. Especially his father: really no investigation beforehand? Don't want to tarnish his name but making himself shown at the guild about something big and about to blabber to all employees Elymas is/was nobility? Sure nobody after that would have known what it is/was all about...

Agree I read it as: let's degrade subscribed users experience to protect us from piracy... And then: we should really do more, we don't know why but more and more people are pirating... face palm... As a paying customer if it gets bad enough I would probably revert to the old ways...
Make service good and cheap enough are the only real solutions...

For posts list I use mark as read as my primary gesture and bookmark (save) as my second one.

Mark as read works as expected: when triggered on an already read post it marks it as unread. The same doesn't happen for bookmark action. If a post is saved, swiping again does nothing.

In a way bookmark gesture really do what it said. Yet making it to toggle save state the same as mark as read do would be nice.

What's better with a drop down terminal vs a normal terminal invoked with global short key?

It's a genuine question, never heard about drop down terminal and looked it up. As I understand they are just normal terminal with a visual effect when they open. Am I missing something?

I agree, I also try to set the language each time I comment or post. What would be nice would be :

    • to have a default selection based on the post language you are answering to or the language set by the community you're posting on
    • and to show last selected languages first in the drop down list

Would it be possible to have more compact header. Banners make them use a lot of space for no real values. Especially when a banner has not been set.

I know you can disable post feed header which is a good solution for your subscriptions posts list but then it also disables header for community :-/

For reference a header for a community having set its banner :

To compact it more community thumbnail coud be aligned vertically with your profil avatar and the block with community name and the start of its description could be displayed between community thumbnail and profil avatar. As the banner image could make it hard to read when there is one, it would be nice to be able to disable its picture.

I take a look at how other apps does it: Webui is the same as Summit, Thunder is good! It uses a gradient to improve readability :

Anyway it would be really nice if header could take less space. On the list of posts for my subscription (the main screen I use) when at top the header takes something like 20/25 percent :-/

Actually I can reproduce it :

    1. Go to linux@lemmy.ml
    2. Check posts "Progress Report: Linux 7.2 - Asahi Linux" are unread, 2 exists on the same community :
    1. Open one, go back : both are marked read in the list of posts even though mark duplicates as read is off (also checked view current settings)
    2. If you were also subscribed to linux@programming.dev then open it : same post is also read even though you didn't open it

what if someone actually wanted to download the thumbnail?

I would expect a long press to show an option to display the thumbnail. I just checked with your purely image post example and it seems that the context menu is already perfect.
For comparison Thunder just shows a purely image post as if the picture was embedded and only shows a combined image and link when the link is a different URL.

    Thanks for considering it!

You're right but looking at raw the image is actually flagged as a thumbnail. Thunder, Jerboa and browser ui open the link when tapping on it.
I believe Summit incorrectly flag posts as text when there is a link followed by a thumbnail. Thunder and webui flag this kind of posts as a link.

Summit probably already does something special as it shows the thumbnail first : raw shows the link is before thumbnail. But imho, it should combine the link and it's thumbnail.

As I keep tapping on the thumbnail which is never what I want to see, is it possible if no official info exists on how to handle such cases to at least add an : "open links for links followed by a thumbnail if tapped" or "Show links followed by a thumbnail as an image link" ?

Hope I am not coming as negative. No matter what Summit is a great app and I am grateful for the enormous time you're probably spending on it.

Checked current settings and it was off. I reset it searched for a cross post, couldn't reproduce it. I don't know if it solved itself since I posted or if resetting fixed it. Anyways seems to work now! Thanks for your help.

I have always show link below post disabled but in post and comments view for post the link is always shown below.

In settings, based on the example, when toggling this setting no link should be displayed below and I guess tapping directly on image should open the link?

Is there something I don't understand or is it a known bug? I couldn't find any post about it! If it is really a bug then it's strange that no one would have reported it before.

    Request about fab buttons (sh.itjust.works)

For comments you can set fab quick action to go to top but for posts list it's not something that's possible. It would be nice if it was an option. Actually all actions should be available for quick actions imho but being able to go back quiclly to top is the one I would really love! 😅

It would also be nice if there was a setting to only press for quick action and long press for menu. In this mode fab button should use quick action icon instead of "..."

Anyway thanks for Summit. It's really a great lemmy app!
