I keep a running list of game developers that use AI in any capacity. In October 2026, the floodgates broke open. Almost every day, often multiple times a day, there was a new announcement from a studio saying they were going to start using AI, or an outburst from an AI bro, or a new AI-powered service released dedicated to making gaming worse.

In October, the floodgates burst open, and the games industry fully embraced AI. It was bad, topped off by Valve saying its not their job to curtail AI slop on Steam. Did you know Gabe Newell donated $20 million to OpenAI?

I keep (or, kept) a running list of every video game studio that uses AI. It grew to over 85 developers in October. With all the devs lashing out and defending their AI use, and the rise of text-to-game AI engines, I can't keep doing it anymore.

Finally was able to update my blog tracking every developer using AI. October was a doozy, some real bad quotes out there.

Added Antstream, Creative Assembly, Google, Paolo Pedercini, and Uchikoshi Kotaro. Also added new information about Capcom, Epic, the Oliver Twins, PlayStation, Roblox, Unity, Valve, and Xbox.

Epic and Xbox in particular really went off the deep end.

Atari recently made story-driven games based on Pong (Pong Quest) and Missile Command (Missile Command Delta). I wonder if this is a coincidence, or if they were created specifically to lay the foundation for films based on them.

Big update to my blog detailing every game studio using AI. I added Crystal Dynamics, Owlcat, Pearl Abyss, Mistwalker, and three more. One of those is GenDesign, which claims not to use AI for its games, only "behind the scenes" work. I detailed why I included them in the post.

I also added a note about Kojima's horrible AI-generated Prada ad, and Crazy Taxi's revival using AI generated assets.

I feel more and more of me die with each update to this blog. I think what frustrates me the most is when companies try to hide it. Like, I hate that Sega are using genAI on Crazy Taxi, but at least they're honest about it. So many (including Pear Abyss which I also added today) tried to hide it and only admitted to it when they were called out. And what's worse, Steam, who have a mandatory AI disclosure policy, just don't care when that policy is violated. Makes you wonder what else Steam would let these companies get away with.
