I dont know if they still sell them but all the old polar watches used to do this. Downside is you need a chest strap and you can't download the data from the watch.

You can get cheap second hand ones online. I would have recommended the rcx5 except the straps break and it's impossible to buy new ones....

Is this your first programming language? If so I strongly recommend Harvard's CS50 course. It's mostly in C but it's very well taught and you learn enough fundamentals that you can quickly transition to another language.

Good advice. I splashed out on the kinesis advantage. A two week holiday and switching to the ergo keyboard cured my tennis elbow. It's very expensive and took a long time to get used to but I wouldn't go back.

I also installed Tridactyl Firefox extension for vim bindings. I don't use it often but it is handy when you are coding in vim and need to keep switching to a browser to read documentation.

Edit: The annoying thing about the kinesis is that it only comes in US layout. So when I use it as a UK device I have to do some funny business to get a backslash.

I disagree with this suggestion. They said they have a tight budget and want noise blocking headphones. Shokz are great (especially for audiobooks and podcasts) but they are expensive and specifically designed to not block sound. They sound muffled and weird if you use ear plugs.
