It's not the danger that pisses me off. That's manageable with good regulation and enforcement. It's their insistence that I have to embrace this technology or else forgo the technologies and services that I regularly use that I object to!

Google used to be awesome. Now search is a garbage fire that barely works. Texting on my phone used to predict typed words based on my frequently used words, now it offers words that I almost never use! I can't even use Google Assistant any longer without signing up for Gemini.

Nvidia used to sell graphics card to consumers and those cards were affordable. Now even ten year old refurbished cards are getting more expensive and harder to find.

Most other tech companies suck in much the same way. Used to be great (or at least pretty good)... Went all-in on AI... Now it sucks giant donkey balls AND the product or service is more expensive than ever! Fuck me right?!

The capabilities of AI are indeed impressive, but not everyone needs it and most people like me don't want it. And I, for one, am absolutely not willing to pay for any AI services period!

And let's not forget the environmental disaster the data centers have turned out to be!

I hope the entire AI industry dies in a fire!

I will never understand how, so called, Americans will unabashedly suck up to Israel this hard.
    Killing Jews is wrong.
    Killing Palestinians is equally wrong.
Knowing how Israel has been mistreating Palestinians for years makes me wonder how any government would continue to support Israel with anything beyond food and medicine?

You should be able to. You will probably have to exit out of the calibration setup. but I don't expect that is much of a big deal.

Also, after reading some of the other comments here, I would suggest looking closely where the Bowden tube enters the hotend. (see arrow in the linked picture) There is a fitting right there that will allow you to remove the tube. Push the black ring down and gently pull up on the tube. It should pull right out. Then it's a simple matter of, heating up the hotend, grab the broken filament with your fingers or a pair of pliers, and perform your filament removal step. Replace the tube once the filament has been removed.

Can you manually heat up that hotend and then advance the feed while pushing in some new filament by hand? If you use a different color, you will be able to tell when the old color has been purged.

As someone who likes cooking but not every day; I would ask you what is it that you don't like about cooking? The smell, the texture, the time it takes, the level of attention it requires?

Anxiety is usually the culprit with me. Some meals, I just don't like and I loathe to make them. Others are not really that good and are a bit challenging to make. I usually avoid those as if they don't exist.

Maybe try to make something simple and easy but the goal is not really cooking, but instead allowing your wife to not have to cook. Grilled cheese sandwiches, canned soup, or even warmed up leftovers. The key here is doing something for your wife/family at meal time. Focus on helping them out and not so much with the quality of the meal.

I found my own interest in cooking when I wanted to recreate a dish I had at a restaurant. The dish was beef stroganoff. It was really good and I wanted to be able to have it any time I wanted. Now it was a puzzle. I found several recipes, noted where they were similar, where they were different, and made a new recipe that used the items that were always included and left out the items that were not. I made it. It was really good. I was really proud of it. Everyone else liked it too. A week or two later, I made it again. Each time I made it, it got slightly better and a little easier, and came together faster.

I now have about ten meals that I make all the time. I make them so often that I no longer need the recipe. Some of them have evolved a bit and can now be made with two or more variations. If I include the variations, it's probably closer to thirty different meals, but they all have the same basic structures.

Some of my favorites are really simple.
Baked California vegetables ([frozen] broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) with melted cheese is one of them.
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Add enough of the vegetables to mostly cover the pan without overlapping. Pour 2-4 tablespoons of light vegetable oil over the vegetables and mix them with your hands until most of them have at least some oil on them. Spread the vegetables out on the tray. Sprinkle (to taste) with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and smoked paprika. Cover the vegetables with a layer of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Place the tray in the oven on the middle rack for about 45 minutes or until the cheese is melted and has started to brown.
Start to finish, the prep time for this recipe is about the same as it takes to preheat the oven.

The big difference between a mig welder and a flux core only welder is the control hardware for the gas solenoid. The mig machine will have it and the flux only machine will not.

There might be a difference between the guns, but that is mostly the gas nozzle in the gun. You need it for GMAW but not for FCAW.

Upgrading from a FCAW only welder to GMAW will require buying a new welder. Modifying a FCAW only welder wouldn't be worth the effort.

If money is the issue, it was for me when I got my first welder, check out the welders offered on Amazon. Some of those are surprisingly good quality.

I have to question the morality of anyone who would even take the time to setup an LLM torture scenario.

I have no trouble with the idea of intentionality trying to confuse and confound an LLM to protect my privacy, but I don't know that I would ever think of it in terms of torture for the LLM and thinking of it in that way seems a bit deranged.

Yes, any MIG welder will work in gasless (FCAW) mode. Make sure to read your owners manual on how to change the polarity. Most flux core wires require a reverse polarity from GMAW.

Be aware that flux core welding produces a good deal of smoke and splatter. You will want to weld outside or with the garage door open when welding with flux core.

The story is about an artist who isn't very successful until he notices some tiny creatures (aliens?) and they somehow get into his eyes. This makes his art really great, but also drives him crazy. His art is full of those tiny faces, because that is what he sees.

Not sure if it was in a book or a magazine, but I would love to read it again.
