Russian / Soviet False Flag Operations (Selected Examples)
| Year | Operation/Event | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1939 | Mainila Shelling | Widely regarded by historians as a Soviet false flag used to justify the Winter War against Finland. |
| 1999 | Russian Apartment Bombings | Officially blamed on Chechen terrorists; some journalists, defectors, and critics allege FSB involvement. Remains disputed. |
| 2014 | Annexation of Crimea ("Little Green Men") | Russian forces initially operated without insignia while Moscow denied involvement before later acknowledging it. Often cited as a deception operation rather than a classic false flag. |
| 2022 | Alleged Ukrainian Attacks in Donbas (Pre-Invasion Incidents) | Western governments and independent analysts assessed several incidents as staged or fabricated to justify military action. |
