I very seriously doubt this happens, but it would be incredibly amazing if it was the Moto G line of devices. Absolute premium specs are not needed to get a great experience on operating systems that don't have Google spy services.

Anyone know why graphene needs such high specs? It doesn't make sense to me that a less bloated OS would need better specs.
As far as I understand, GrapheneOS's requirements focus on security features, not device speed.
It's specifically the ability to relock the bootloader with custom software. Pixels are the only phones that can do it.
Doesn't seems to mention spec, the announcement article did mention a lot of security and it's a joint venture to seek out better security for your security of your secure phone.
I read something from grapheneOS saying that even the 2026 signature motorola didn't have quite good enough specs for graphene, but maybe this was a misunderstanding on my part.
GrapheneOS has a hard list of requirements for supporting a device. As of this moment, Pixels are are the one that has all of them
You need to be able to relock the bootloader after flashing firmware. Pixels can do it and that's it.
They need several years of updates for firmware, baseband radios etc from the OEM, They also need a robust secure element, this is why spec requirements are as they are. Mainly for the end user's security & privacy can't have privacy without actual security.
vendor collaboration is difficult to get right. hope it all goes well.
I loved my Moto devices. The first Droid was awesome with the slider. Feels like another world back then.
I wanted to finally buy a pixel 10 this year. I guess that now i will be waiting to buy the real phone.
The same motorolla that supports IDF?
I can't make a post in group,so doing it in comments and Privacy group too:
Hey everyone, I am setting my new (used) pixel 8 with GOS. I read on GOS site a lot,but want clearer understand some things. How to set different profiles- one for private and one for daily use. I understood its possible, right? I read another bothering thing, that GOS use 2 steps authentication- fingerprints and pin to open the phone. I am very against biodata, I never use it. Is it possible to leave only with pin ? Any advice what to apps to install will be greatly appreciated.
Isn't Motorola a chinese company?
It's hard - to me at least - to believe that Motorola is allowed to provide a device without backdoor(s). What's the catch here?
Motorola Mobility is American, and a subsidiary of Lenovo who are Chinese.
American is not better. Anybody remember Edward Snowden? I'm sure it's only gotten worse since then.
Oh yeah, to be clear I was just clarifying the structure. I don't consider American companies to be any more trustworthy than companies based elsewhere.
The US is far, far more of a threat than China even remotely is. That being said, I highly doubt the GOS devs would even consider any collaboration if a backdoor was ever a possibility.
The possibility of backdoors is unavoidable, and it's part of their threat model. It's why the mobile baseband is isolated, for example.
The US is far, far more of a threat than China even remotely is
If you're American*
or any global north country, honestly, especially in the five eyes
there’s not much one could do to anger the chinese government enough for them to risk sending agents to kidnap or kill a westerner
all the US needs is a request to law enforcement
or any global north country, honestly, especially in the five eyes
I dunno what that means. US doesn't have jurisdiction outside the US, just like China doesn't have jurisdiction outside of China, so not a whole lot they can do to you. I have heard of Chinese kidnapping their own people who fled to the US, but I'm not sure how true that is.
all the US needs is a request to law enforcement
In the US, yes. Not even that, really.
So does that mean that collaboration is done with American company and not Chinese company?
Simple answer is yes.
However, Lenovo have full legal and financial control over Motorola. But because Motorola is a subsidiary, it's legally distinct from its parent company. And because it's incorporated in the USA it has to be compliant with US law. So, for example, Lenovo is not permitted to compel Motorola to violate US law.
Not preinstalled software.
Hardware backdoors still exist.
For as long as major powers control the production of the majority of computing devices this will be true. But as far as I know there are no short term alternatives for completely open mobile device hardware... so if hardware backdoors are in your threat model then unfortunately mobile devices are not for you...better stick to the very small community of open hardware for laptop/desktop computers for your communication needs.
That's awesome considering Pixel devices may not be viable for much longer as Google has been making more and more code proprietary. Hope it works out!
Hard to believe it's real, hopefully Motorola is committed to the long term.
Come on, Motorola. You already have a fairly decent line of existing Moto phones. There IS a huge market for folks who are concerned about their privacy.
