On Cosmos (the original), Carl Sagan goes through a lot of the names for the part of the galactic spiral that we see at night in places without light pollution. A lot of them revolved around milk, but one that really stuck in my mind was ‘the backbone of the night.’ I think it might have been from an Aboriginal Australian culture, but it’s been so long I couldn’t say for sure.
It sounds a lot better in Spanish: "Vía Láctea".
Cum path
Milfy Way, or Milfky Way.
(Aka The way of the milf.)
It's such a shitty joke (my brainhole entertains itself in the stupidest, nonsensical, basic ways).
milky way (when i remembered it right) the scientific name
have to go now, hope someone who is informed can agree/disagree here
I mean, if anyone embodied the term better, I've not seen her. 🔥😱🫠
The problem is that Galaxy means milky way, so Saying milky way galaxy is like saying the milky way milky way.
or chai tea, ir ATM machine
I wonder what other languages/cultures use to refer to our galaxy
"Linnunrata" in finnish which translates to "Bird's path" or "Bird's track"
In Ukraine we use "Чумацький Шлях" (I'm not quite sure how to translate Чумак/Чумацький so I'll leave a link to wiki dictionary ) but saying "Молочний шлях" (Literally Milky Way) is also right
Linnutee in Estonian, literally "bird's path" because of the birds migrating south for the winter using it for navigation.
Vetrarbrautin in Icelandic, meaning "winter track". Similar to Swedish vintergatan
In french it's the same word for word : Voie Lactée
Totally subjective, but I think it sounds better than the english
Galaxy Vega = Vegans.
