A boat, you say.

Landing somewhere 500 years ago, you say....

  • As much as that did make me laugh, the unspoken implication is that military might is the thing that gives a country the ability to say that they own the land. Rather than the boat thing. So he's basically Mob Speak saying "What are ya gonna do? Stop me? Yeah, right."

If he doesn't want Russia as a neighbour, he should give away Alaska.

The irony of "the fact they had a boat land there 500 years ago doesn't mean they own the land" coming from literally any government in the Western hemisphere.

Yaakov Fauci has a title deed to the property. He also has a court ruling. The only thing he does is live in part of a house and be a bit of nuisance. He doesn’t use violence.

Trump has none of these and is far more powerful and dangerous.

This is a comparison that smells of antisemitism.

That guy might be an asshole, but the situation is a little more complex.

In 1948 tens of thousands of Jews were expelled from east Jerusalem, where they had lived for generations. Jerusalem had been majority Jewish for decades at that point. The empty houses were then given to Arabs by the kingdom of Jordan.

When Israel took all of Jerusalem, the people who had lost their homes in 1948 tried to get them back. However they were occupied by Palestinian Arabs then. Decades of lawsuits followed. Some gave up their claims, some came to an arrangement like paying rent.

Taking a house back that was stolen by the current inhabitants, isn’t exactly stealing.

"Not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor"? I guess hes going to have to give Alaska to Canada or something if he wants to achieve that.

Greenland is not neighboring the US, it's neighboring Canada.

China or Russia can't take over Greenland as they don't have the power projection to do so, Greenland has a literal US base on it and Greenland is part of Denmark who is a member of NATO.

Also a boat landed in the US 500 years ago too so that means the US doesn't own the land either. Time to give it back to the Natives.

Greenland is part of NATO. Russia attacking NATO is (was) equivalent of starting was with US and 31 other countries.

US attacking Greenland will destroy NATO.

The US attacking Greenland has got to be treason, right?

The North Atlantic Treaty is a full on treaty ratified by congress, not just some rinkydink international “agreement” like the Paris climate accords. A ratified treaty supersedes all other state and federal law second only to the constitution.

    Article 5

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and…

Now I’m no constitutional scholar, but I’m pretty sure that “all” means “ALL”. Wouldn’t an attack against Greenland be equivalent is the eyes of the law (whatever that’s worth nowadays) to an attack against the US, even if perpetuated by USians?

If he doesn't want Russia as neighbor, he probably shouldn't invade a country that has Russia as neighbor.

and to top it off... if we don't do it someone else will...

Umm... isn't that the whole point of these treaties... Literally the whole concept is superpowers behave with other developed nations because... all other nations are supposed to draw the line after one nation starts making signs of attacking. It's literally what the lesson learned in the world wars was... was to band together, we did a really bad job for Russia/Ukrain, but I really hope the world actually takes some firm action if trump seriously moves forward.

Yes, exactly. It's still an incredibly dangerous time for all of us, but they're going whole hog now because this is their last chance, and those in this shitstain of an administration know that if they don't consolidate power now, somehow, they never will.

I don't follow many political analysts, but I do follow Heather Cox Richardson because I admire her rigorous historical scholarship and style of presentation, and she agrees with you. She puts the rough timeframe as "between now and May," as in, if they don't succeed by May, they won't succeed. It will just crumble, as you say.

For myself, they did themselves no favor with the Minneapolis murder, because I've got the women I know who have watched the videos telling me that the asshole who shot her is the typical embodiment of pretty much every abuser they've ever personally had to deal with, and they all see some part of themselves in her. If that's the case, and it seems so from the nationwide protests that have sprung up everywhere with next to no notice, then they have most certainly pissed off the wrong crowd and narrowed their window of opportunity even further.

    I certainly hope so.

That child rapist is a dumb insufferable cunt. Why has no one taken him out...

I have no idea on why you guys would vote him in once, let alone twice.
I didn't forget what a total cunt he was in his first term. And I judged the us population harshly for it. This second term is unforgivable. Just unforgivable. Generations of people will judge you on this, for either voting for him or enabling him by not voting at all. The majority of you are to blame for this.

Russia is going to invade a NATO nation with an active American military base on it? Seems like that angle is already covered....

Stop saying this is about American security interests in Greenland, you already have that covered, with help from NATO. Conquering Greenland would weaken the defense situation by alternating all the NATO allies.

Trump wants more land, and depending on the projection of the projection of the map he is looking at, he may think he's conquering something the size of North America.

Oh, and it conveniently completes surrounding Canada with USA, seems like maybe Canada really should just submit to the USA...

Warming may make that a very attractive hub for ships...

Oh and of course some untapped resources in the ground ..

we are already gathering the things we may need for a prolonged invasion, for safety purposes ill leave it at that.

but long story short, the united states will never financially recover from this.

As a Cherokee, I have to admit he has a point. Just because you landed a boat here 500 years ago doesn't mean you own it. I assume he's ready to GTFO and go back to... Germany? Wherever. He can just owe me the rent for the last 533 years.

Oh wait, this only applies when it benefits him? How very presidential.
