My onions usually just come wrapped in white, yellow, or purple paper. 🤷‍♂️

That is pretty obviously the tough outer layer of an onion, not plastic. They didn't take off enough layers of the onion. No one is going to wrap onions in plastic because that would actually make them spoil faster.

I'm pretty sure that onion did not cook 5 hours. Just cook it 5 hours and the plastic will go away.
