Governor calls Trump ‘Taco’ online, short for ‘Trump always chickens out’, prompted by president’s flip-flop deadlines

As much as I like Newsom’s politics a lot of the time, I dont think stooping to the level of writing deranged all caps tweets mimicking Trump is a great plan. Although at this point what even is a great plan? At least theyre doing something I guess

Gavin Newsom is on top of his troll game.

I don’t like this era of troll politics.

The trolls should have stayed online. And y’all were so fucking stupid to continuously discount online discourse like it wasn’t happening in the real world. Is it clear now? The internet is just a communication medium for the real world. It wasn’t just an alternate reality you could dismiss.

This is not directed at the person whose post I’m replying to. Just people who were overly dismissive of online communication spaces and the reality of social media.

I agree that the standard of behavior for politicians has fallen into the gutter, but I don't think there's much to gain by taking the high road.

Unfortunately necessary to talk to the level so trump’s followers understand. It’s like speaking another language

Expecting Trump to declare cannabis to be a schedule I drug, cancel the plans to reschedule it, and begin federal raids on legal dispensaries within California to harm their economy.

Bonus points if he collects state purchasing records (nationwide) to selectively threaten/silence people based on their social media history.

  • source
  • hideshow 2 child comments

It already is a schedule one drug

I should have said reaffirm to capture my intended meaning there.

It’s not that he would change the scheduling, but change the handling of it. Right now the federal government more or less takes a strategy of non-enforcement at the intra-state level, but I could see Trump choosing to selectively meddle after reaffirming its schedule I status.

California may redraw its maps* Gavin can't actually do this unilaterally unlike in Texas and this will be put to a referendum on the November ballot.

The ballot measure won't be a sure thing even though California is very democratic, 38% voted for trump in the last election. It'll be a very off year election as well so turnout will probably very low and only those who are motivated. So the question is whose more motivated, the anti-trump resistance who want to stop him at any cost, or the conservatives in the state who are effectively having there representation taken away.

Maybe one good outcome of this is the conservatives will feel so unwelcome they'll actually follow through and fuck off to Texas and help ease the housing crisis.

Why does everyone keep saying "third time"? There will likely be no more times. He's already promised everyone that they'll never have to vote again. Why do people keep thinking he'll do less damage than he's promised?

It won’t be and he won’t be. He has doctors to keep him alive long past his expiration date and drugs to keep him blissfully ignorant and happy. The only thing we will get is the knowledge it is over, but his name is going to live on for so much longer 😩

I agree; however, he has promised no more elections. My point is that he keeps saying he's going to do all this crazy shit and nobody ever believes him, and then he does it. So you should start believing him.

I've already told you. Your "third time" statement implies that there will be an election in the future when he's promised no more voting.

I'm just saying - people hear what he says and they immediately discount it or think "surely it won't be as bad as he's saying," but it nearly always is. I don't think that you are completely ignoring his promises, but you're giving him more slack than you should, and that's one of the reasons we're in this mess (not because of you specifically, just people in general).

Okay, but Gavin calling himself handsome, even to mock Trump, makes me a bit ill.

Edit: I'm guessing the downvoters are not from California and have not been witness to Gavin's photo shoots to promote things like clearing/busting encampments of unsheltered people while trying to look like he's in a Gucci ad, 'Blue Steel' and all. He's a disingenuous hack who is making as many bad moves as good ones lately, because he is trying to play to both sides for his 2028 presidential run.

This is how we needed to be dealing with Trump.

Maybe they will realize how insane Trump is when they see other people behaving the same way.

This is how we need to be dealing with Republicans. Let's not pretend Trump is the source of the insanity or that it will be over when he goes away.

MAGA will implode when Trump croaks. They've spent nearly a decade propping up their faith in the man, lying to themselves that everything he does is OK. No one else will get that sort of devotion.

Wait is 9 seats enough to flip it?

    That's pretty sad.

  • source

220-215 if all seats are filled right now Dems have 3 open (death) kid touchers have 1 (resigned).

Cali has 52 total with 9 being Red Texas has 38 total with 13 being Blue

Cali can wipe all 9 seats out. Lasson county is +22 Red with a population of about 37k. Nevada county is +5 with 96k pop. You can start stretching lines and eat up red counties quick.

Cali has a little over 10mil democrats vs almost 6mil republicans voters.

Texas has about 8mil democrats vs 6.6mil republicans. They can't swallow all the blue counties.

Republicans win bc they spread out to remote areas. Democrats lose bc they have massive numbers in dense areas.

A 1:1 vote would fix a lot of problems but republicans would be out. 3:1 would be the party outlook for blue:red.

It was more so, texas can't do what california can. There will still be blue areas just not 13 anymore. Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio are to populated to break up unlike Cali red areas.

Look at the Texas maps, the are jammed in.

I'm willing to bet $100 that something stops him from doing it, they give up, and blame Republicans for it as they watch Democracy end.
