Drunk driving on an ebike is substantially less dangerous to the public than a car and should receive substantially weaker punishments accordingly, and manual bikes even less.

Not if these ebikes are flying at more than the recommended speed (i.e. 25kph), and the worst ones are modified or custom ebikes (or really e-mopeds ) with the speed limiter removed.

I think it should still be illegal, but a lesser penalty than driving a car drunk.

Maybe it should be based on the weight of the vehicle you're operating; a drunk driver of a Ferd F-teenthousand is much more dangerous than a drunk bicycle rider.

The government is also consulting on whether local leaders should have extra powers, including setting fees and requirements for operators to share data to improve enforcement and journey planning.
