Adapt to what? They are opposing the LOWERING of standards. Toyota is leading the world in vehicle sales. Get a clue.

Trump and the US auto makers are trying to drastically gut the fuel economy requirements for new cars.

Instead of innovating and building better (and more reasonably sized) vehicles, they just want to continue building gas guzzlers.

    Because of course they do.

If US automakers can’t handle higher standards, maybe we don’t need to ban foreign EVs. They can just stick to trucks, which is all they are able to handle apparently.

I had already written off the idea of buying a new car ever, due to mandatory spy tech, remote disablers, etc. Now they're going to cost more to buy AND operate..

I didn't need more reasons but okay

Well those car manufacturers could stop paying to lobby and use that money to actually innovate. I do not know about the US, but back where I live, people actually want to move away from fossil fueled cars and they do not give a flying fuck about whether it is the Chinese spying on them or the US Tech bros.

I thought Trump represents the party of states rights? So California should be allowed to mandate stricter fuel efficiency standards, as republicans say is their right.

Starting a war that spikes gas prices is a great way to sell EVs. And since they dropped the rebate, the government can keep that extra cash!
