I'm just gonna ramble because I need to get it off my chest.

So my daughter has worn glasses most of her life. She's very long sighted. Anyway there's a surgery she can have done where she may not need to wear contacts or glasses or if she did they would be a very light prescription.

The surgeon is one of the top in his field but he has never done this to someone so young. He has ask permission if he can consult with his colleagues. Yeah yeah sure.

It's elective surgery because someone higher up has decided that her eye sight is a luxury. We will cover it but it's her eyes and with every surgery there's risks.

I haven't told anyone because my mum is going through her own cataract procedures and I don't want friends going "the poor thing" because she's actually really excited about it. I'm trying hard to get over the fact that they want to drill holes and cut slits and insert foreign objects into her beautiful eyeballs.

And then my fridge dies and I'm deciding whether it's ok to keep a quarter bottle of fish sauce which is passed it's bb date when this kinda shit is easy for me to decide. I tipped it down the sink and now my kitchen smells.

Thank you for listening. โค๏ธ

Hope it all goes well for kiddo. My experience with ophthalmologists is they are extremely cautious. Always risk but they generally take as few as possible.

And remember young means faster healing :)

It sounds tough but it's really up to your daughter. Would doing this to her eyes now help her out long term? If her eyes would just get worse then it might be good to correct things early. I'm sure she's aware of the risks involved

Yeah thatโ€™s tough. If your daughter has any uncertainties or questions at all, thereโ€™s nothing to stop you booking another consult with the surgeon to go through all the questions and possibilities. Ask them whatโ€™s the youngest person they did it on successfully, why does the age matter, would he be comfortable telling you no if he thought it was too much risk etc. itโ€™s an important decision and sometimes young people (or anyone!) can feel overwhelmed by doctors and feel they canโ€™t ask all the questions they want. That said, if she and you are feeling confident you are fully informed and the doctors are confident, then Iโ€™m excited for her to be glasses free!

Yeah we're both fully informed. We've asked a lot questions. He's really good at explaining things.

The reason they wait a little is because eyes can change up until your early 20s (I can't remember the exact age. I did ask) but hers are stable.

I've got a lot on my mind rn. First thing I'm gonna do is sort through all the fridge magnets. Discard all the shit ones, relocate all the good ones. A lot of memories there. I wonder what is lurking under the fridge. My bet is atleast one olive and some dry dog food.

Last day of work for the week (for me lol, the others still have to work tomorrow). I should get home in time to still use the daylight to do my nails, they're quite chipped. If not this arvo, then tomorrow.

Anyone want to give me colour/patterns inspiration? I'm up to try something new lol

I'm currently rocking butter yellow French tips on a sheer pink base. And daisies on three fingers. It felt spring like.

Bunyip was a mildly interesting town that I would never move to. The second picture is a view of the main street.

Todayโ€™s the day I play the โ€˜does the aircon still work after not being used for six monthsโ€™ game. House has warmed up enough that Iโ€™ll need it this afternoon I think.

Update: it works good. House is cool.

On one hand, I should sleep.

On the other hand, there's an extended live stream of my favourite music podcast happening across the globe...

    Sleep will win. Barely.

Oh no, turns out the FM synth I got off Aliexpress has a bunch of different firmwares out there that all look really good. I just bought one because it was a capable synth that was surprisingly cheap, I saw it as a potential beatmaker but not much more than an elaborate toy.

You can turn this thing into a groovebox, play Doom on it, make it a dungeonsynth machine. I thought they were cheap but the real cost is in buying multiple to have each firmware at hand at all times. I can't believe what a sucker I've been

This could finally be it. Either windows on the big PC has finally carked it or the boot priority going straight to Bazzite is messing with the update I didn't want it to do

Printer connected to the Bazzite desktop and it wasn't a nightmare to do. It was just harder than it seemed because I hadn't put paper in yet so I kept declining the test print and it wasn't clearly stating it was connected otherwise

My experience with Linux Mint & printers have been "It just works".

Bazzite is cool & fun, I'm currently using it on my BC-250 3D printed console, but for my personal desktop & laptops I've grown to appreciate the reliability of Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition.

You don't actually need a specific distro for better gaming performance, SteamOS 1.0 & 2.0 were Debian based like Ubuntu/Mint, so the Steam.deb installer you can download from the Steam website for me runs great including controller support.

I strongly recommend with whichever distro you use, to install AppManager for a specific app type called AppImage. AppImage's are a great portable app format for things that shouldn't really need to be installed outright.

Normally with portable AppImage's, you would need to manually download and replace the file with each upgrade, but the AppManager can update all your AppImage's like a normal package manager after you add the apps GitHub link.

ProtonUp-Qt is one such AppImage which is great for downloading & managing third-party Proton''s such as GE-Proton. This third-party Proton is popular for older Windows games that have proprietary codecs that Steam can't redistribute as a business without added costs, so normal Proton may not be able to play older game cutscenes.

AppImage's are generally distribution-agnostic & work well with immutable OS's like Bazzite.

    ^Edit:spelling.^

I started with Mint but felt like I was having some performance issues. I already had Bazzite on a laptop so I made the switch and it has fixed most of the problems, I figured it was easier than trying to hunt down whatever driver or package I was missing.

I'll download AppManager. I've been using some appimages and getting software working on Linux outside of the package manager is still a headscratcher at times
