Hope this trend continues. My Pixel has a solid 5 years left easily but after that this'd be great. Looking at Framework laptops as well.

I'm in the US and bought one. Put LineageOS on it, and I'm really enjoying it. It has like double the battery life of my old phone, and I don't know if that's because of the phone or because none of my apps are constantly uploading my personal data.

    CalyxOS

Relocked bootloader for security, banking apps in seperate user profits, built-in work profiles for the more needed but shit apps.

I am loving it on my fairphone 6 so far, and the flasher tool was very easy and it automatically triggers the locking steps so you can't mess it up.

My Sony's battery lasts a week in sparse use with /e/OS. It was the surveillance wasting energy.

Several are able to run Lineage (I believe a lot of the 1 series as well as a couple of the 5 and 10 series too), and since e/OS is based on Lineage, they can more easily support it. Check the link the other person commented!

I bought two a few weeks ago. One my wife and I, each. We both love it so far. Also because we just barely missed the promo for free fairbuds, they supplied us with two gift cards for equivalent deal.

    Fantastic customer service.

Does Linux actually work on the 6+? I haven't been able to find any info on compatibility other than it supposedly existing.

The Fairphone (Gen. 6) and Fairphone (Gen. 6+) are software-compatible, so you can install the Nura image on either model.

I've tried to finding if they'd work in Australia so i can import one. Our telcos are super restrictive about phones becase we shut 3G and coaling our emergency number is fraught with issues on many phones

I have one too, really like it. Performamce is pretty much on par with my previous phone, Pixel 7, though battery is much better. The slow USB-c port sucks, but fortunately I can use an SD card for large file transfers. I just had to get a case because the body is a bit too slippery for me.

If it's just for file transfers, have you tried local send? That's only limited by your local connection speed to your own network. Any 2 devices on the same network can transfer arbitrarily many/large files back and forth

I quite fancy a FP6 / FP6+, but unfortunately my FP3+ is still going strong with it's 2nd battery and 2nd USB port (due to cheap cables wearing it out), so I'll probably have to keep using it for another few years... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, so does this mean it's popular enough for a bunch of people to buy as much of them as possible and sell them in the US at %500 percent of what they're worth?

    Because that's what will happen.

Regional restricted phone. Can't even deliver through forwarding company because store does not accept payment method with billing address from my country.

European companies struggle with scale. Canada is neglected by Fairphone.

It would be completely fine for me if this company could not deliver the phone to my country. Logistics is difficult and expensive. If i wanted to get one anyway, i could just deliver it through forwading company from my country, for an additional delivery fee. The main problem however, which i am the most outraged about, is that they intentionally restrict payment from countries where they will not deliver, even though i have money and can deliver through third party delivery service.

Take this with a grain of salt as i am not an expert but when i looked into it if you sell knowing it will go to a forwarding service to a specific country legally it then counts as selling to that country and the seller is on the hook for all the regulations so they have to block it.

Then it is a regional restriction. Its one thing when company does not bother selling it in other country, and a completely different thing when it is intentionally restricting product sales in those countries. And unlike software, physical products cannot be just pirated, while smuggling is significantly risker.

Again i don't know for sure but from my understanding to answer this question and the one you asked ironblossom.

If a company accepts payment and ships to a fowarding service knowing it is going to a certain country then that is legally the same as if they shipped it themselves.

If their product is not certified to be sold in that country the seller now can face heavy fines.

If their product is defective and causes damage and they don't have insurance for that country then the seller can be on the hook for heavy payouts.

To prevent this the seller must block the sale.

If you order from another place you'd be importing.

If, for example, you order something from China to somewhere in the European customs union, directly from China and not a European company, you'd be the importer and as such are responsible for following your country's regulations.

Imagine being a seller and someone from another country, perhaps one you don't know much about and one that is not in a customs union with the country you are in, orders something from you. There's no reason you would have to comply with regulations of that country.

I'll happily accept if im wrong as i am not a lawyer and certainly not a Canadian one, ive tried to find enforcement based on it but i can't find clear cases on it, this is the legislation:

No person shall manufacture, import, distribute, lease, offer for sale or sell any radio apparatus, interference-causing equipment or radio-sensitive equipment for which a technical acceptance certificate is required under this Act, otherwise than in accordance with such a certificate.

    Radiocommunication Act 4(2)

The question becomes does "offer for sale or sell any radio apparatus" also apply to companies outside Canada?

Still, i can imagine a company is not keen on selling products they know are illegal in the destination country, but the seller (outside canada) being liable for the radio act is maybe wrong then.

On the consumer protection part it does seem correct that the foreign seller is on the hook, atleast for provincial law.

This Act applies in respect of all consumer transactions if the consumer or the person engaging in the transaction with the consumer is located in Ontario when the transaction takes place.

    Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002, s. 2(1)

Again assuming "all" then includes foreign transactions.

The question becomes does โ€œoffer for sale or sell any radio apparatusโ€ also apply to companies outside Canada?

Look at the first part of the sentence:

No person shall manufacture, import, distribute, lease, offer for sale

import is right there, you are apparently not allowed to import it under Canadian law.

Canadian law can, of course, not stop a company in another country from following different laws.
