It was a "rubber" bullet, but still.

It was a rubber coated metal bullet fired at close range.

You do not shoot someone unless you want them dead.

Shit, as prior military we were taught you don't point your weapon at anything or anyone unless you're prepared to pull the trigger. The fact that all the others on that line had their weapons down, but this dude has his up the whole time, tells you all you need to know about the lack of training of that individual.

    Lack of training

On the contrary, these pigs are doing exactly what the people in power want them to.

We put too much stock in training here, for things that should be obvious. How do we know you shouldn’t do that? I haven’t had any police training.

This is related to that “qualified immunity” bullshit. Somehow we let what could have been an appropriate thing turn into cops being above the law except in rare cases they were specifically trained for and there is existing case law. Bullshit. All too many of these look interesting headline cases start with “any sane person knows …” yet cops are above the law

That is fucking nuts. If you have 50 police officers you do not need to shoot a woman who is VERY clearly not a fucking threat. Holy shit they treated her like she was carrying

My european brain could not handle why this would be the way to treat a pregnant person until I realized, that this might be about a weapon instead of a child.

The context might make this obvious for people who are more used to guns than babies, but I was very confused.

They kept shooting at her even when she was limping away crying and someone trying to help her. So being a threat I think was the least of their concerns. Seems more like they were enjoying target practice.

reminder that "non lethal weapons" are actually just "less lethal weapons". rubber bullets, tear gas and tasers absolutely can and have killed people.

I was wondering, if someone shot rubber bullets at a cop, would they be charged with attempted murder or assault?

In America, you can be charged with murder if the piggly wiggly arresting you works too hard and has a heart attack.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/charges-dropped-guatemalan-farmworker-death-sheriffs-officer-arrest-rcna141681

So shooting anything at a cop is most likely summary execution at the scene.

You don't even have to shoot anything. You don't even have to be holding something capable of shooting something. The cop just has to say that from their perspective it kind of looked like you might have been holding something that could have been capable of shooting something and they'd likely be able to justify murdering you.

If anyone ever doubts this, go watch some police body worn camera videos. They routinely shoot people for things like this and get away with it. Then on videos where someone ambushes the police, the right wing lunatics watching will always say “See? This is why they are so jumpy!” as if it’s totally justified.

Maybe not every single one of them will shoot an unarmed civilian, but all of them just stood by and did nothing.

    Verdict: ACAB.

Person who took this video is an actual hero. I don't want to imagine what could have happened to that woman without them.

Also: don't make the mistake of looking at the replies to this on Twitter. I forgot just how bad it was, but nearly every top reply is by verified accounts trying to justify this somehow. It's actually insane to me the complete lack of empathy these people show - past party lines and political differences, isn't this obviously a bad thing that shouldn't have happened?

I abandoned Twitter for Mastodon a few months after Musk bought Twitter. I figured I'd keep the account around to DM people who there, just in case my need to do so arose. Then I kinda forgot about it. Cut to a few months ago I sent a message to someone on a different service. I knew they were doing a project, but I politely asked them "hey, do you have the interest and time to do xyz?"

They said "I'm sorry, I'd normally love to, I'm just really busy right now and don't have the time; you probably know I'm doing ABC myself." And that was legit. But they added "Also, you should know I generally don't work with people who have Twitter accounts anyway, for future reference."

Initially I was "But wait, I don't USE it..." But I took a few minutes to think about it. I mean, he wasn't wrong. I DID have an account at the Nazi bar... And I don't use it. It just lends my name to the service for no benefit to me. And that's why I decided to download my data and delete my account. Sometimes calling people out (in a helpful way,) can be a positive.

And that, dear reader, not necessarily the person I'm replying to but you reading this, is now me reminding you that you can delete your Twitter account and stop supporting the Nazi bar.

That's what I wanted to leave here as well.

The coloured girl immediately overcome her fear, crossed the street very aware of her surroundings and defended that shot girl.

She observed the situation, decided to put herself into danger to assist this foreigner. Such a strong and lovely human beeing 💪.

I leave her my deepest respect. Whish I could give her a huge hug as a thanks.

Manufacturers of "less lethal" rubber rounds do not consider them safe at that range. They're considered very dangerous with a high risk of death within about 10 meters.

That's a seriously injured, unarmed, citizen and not only do they not lift a finger to help they seem to fire at the woman trying to help her.

You're also supposed to bounce them off the ground. Never a direct hit.

I think you’re thinking of tear gas rounds. Trying to bounce rubber bullets sounds less predictable. But yeah, don’t shoot this close, especially not at a peaceful citizen.

Nah, it's the non lethal rounds they fire, but it sounds like there are newer ones as well that can be fired directly.

Originally, they were intended to be bounced off the ground when the British designed them.

Looks like LAPD now use some that are intended to be bounced off the ground, and some that are meant to be fired directly at the target.

    https://www.reuters.com/graphics/USA-MIGRATION/PROTEST-LOSANGELES-WEAPONS/zdpxalxkyvx/

In fact, the LAPD does not use rubber bullets, the department told Reuters.

Instead, the LAPD uses foam rounds, a condensed sponge projectile that resembles a hard Nerf ball.

One version, which has a plastic body with a hard foam nose, is fired from a 40mm launcher and is usually aimed directly at a target.

A second version, fired from a 37mm launcher, disperses five foam baton rounds toward the ground in front of a hostile crowd once an unlawful assembly has been declared, before bouncing up into the crowd. It is not to be fired directly at individuals, the LAPD said.

However in the past, even with ones that are meant to be targeted at the ground, police have often been found aiming them at people. So I wouldn't be surprised if/when the LAPD fires the 37mm versions directly at people either.

The purpose of Hollywood is entertainment and helping out manufacture consent (not necessarily in that order), not raising awareness on subjects were people's increased awareness would threaten the power of the elites, so when it comes to the minions of the elites it's pretty much all either "Heroes of Justice" (with a side of "anything is acceptable in the pursuit of Justice" or, at most, "Most are Good Guys but there's a few bad apples".

No way I could be a cop. If I was standing in line with those guys and saw my coworker shoot a girl close range I'd punch him in the face. This is what people mean when they say ACAB. There's no way a decent person can see a woman get shot like that and not want to help.

No cop has ever been held accountable for whatever bullshit they pull when they're in riot gear. They're basically anonymous and the worst that will happen is a civil settlement with the city (which won't even come out of the police budget!).

Have you seen the damage caused by their bullets? It's like using frozen paintballs, at the high end of allowed PSI, but the size of a golf ball. LA civilians rn are under hostile armed force. They need an armed* resistance to take out the members of the police that do not act as police. They do not get punished. They just get deployed again.

*I know this is difficult. Non lethal weapons are harder to obtain than lethals, and the moment the resistance use lead is the moment the invading army do too.

  • Pigs love rolling in shit. Responding to protest is a blank check to do whatever violence you want while being paid massive amounts of overtime.

All of the cops I've known personally are from very similar backgrounds, basically straight edged nerds with paladin brain. People who weren't necessarily bullied, but just perceived themselves as a tormented outsider. They want action, they want violence, and they think they are completely righteous in whatever they do because the badge makes them good guys.

Every cop is a looser wannabe Rambo, but was too chicken shit or lazy to actually join the military.
