A/I stands for Autistici/Inventati.

A/I (Autistici/Inventati, pronounced [au’tistiʧi]-[iŋ’vɛntati], or [iŋvɛn’tati]) was born in 2001 from an encounter of individuals and collectives of the autonomous anticapitalist movement interested in technology and active in the digital rights struggle. We believe that this world is far from being the best world possible. We react by providing a platform and tools for digital self-defense addressing the need of free communication for activists and other individuals.

The day we discovered we had been designated a global terrorist organization, we promised that we would try to resist as long as this was possible, that we would not back down as long as we could see options to stand our ground.

We cannot engage in a fight or expose ourselves to manipulations that threaten the lives of these people and their loved ones, leaving them at the mercy of autocrats, fascists and agencies that take extra-legal courses of action.

What happened? First their main domain, autistici.org, was blocked globally by the US entity that provides the ".org" TLD. More recently their bank shut down their funds because of caving in to pressure that ultimately comes from the same source.

Full context/statement about the domain shutdown:
https://www.inventati.org/campaign/press

I also made some posts about this earlier. You can probably guess that I've been relying on their services, for a long time. And not even for particularly political reasons - they give email accounts to people who care for privacy and anonymity. Or used to.

They announce this new site:
https://keepitfree.ai/announcements/announcing-https/keepitfree.ai/

Personally I'm just shocked how US policy reaches and impacts my normal peaceful European life.

Fuck the US government. Being AntiFa is not terrorism. Being against AntiFa means you're Fa.

PS: Sorry for posting this to several world news communities. I feel this topic should shake the Fediverse.
Remember:
This can happen to any ".org" domain, and possibly many other TLDs that are controled by entities that are prone to give into US bullying. Or your bank will cave to US pressure.

It's not surprising that Italian fascists happily comply with US fascists.

That said it would probably be the same case for anywhere in the EU at the moment as they are still 100% dependent on US banking infrastructure so not complying would mean you are locked out of all US dollar denominated trade. And with how antagonistic EU has been towards countries that have alternative banking structures they would basically be cooked.

The debank is not a surprise and efforts to avoid that should be standard practice for any anticapitalist endeavor.

The TLD block is honestly new and I don't know how one can avoid it.

Have multiple domains on a range of different TLDs from a range of different countries.

Onion Services are free and take a few seconds to register

How secure is it? Like if State pressure comes in would they be forced to comply?

It's open source and funded by the US government. I'd say it's extremely secure. The US military created it to be able to attack their adversaries anonymously. Their security depends on it. Their ability to avoid attribution depends on laundering their traffic with other non-military users.

    Yes, Tor is extremely secure.

The vulnerabilities that take down Onion Services is almost always an attack on the clear net. Some misconfiguration of the server outside the scope of Tor.

So you are aware that it is the US government that is suppressing in this particular situation correct?

Like not disputing the tech of TOR it's just with the administration as is I don't think it should be something any FOSS privacy first project should be funding dependent on.

The US is in a constant state of war. They will always fund Tor. They need it. Increasingly so as they use AI to fight their wars.

You can give as much logic as you like but at the end of the day the administration is not a fan of any supposed leftists (anyone bthat just doesn't agree with the administration.) So would find TOR an enemy by making their tech easily accessible (more or less) to everyone including those it hates

I wasn't talking about the tech I was talking about the org.

Sure the Tor network proper should be able survive if the Organization behind it is gone, but still the org is at risk with it's funding being government dependent

It's a nonprofit in the US. If the government disolves them, you'll have military intelligence folks in Russia, China, Israel, etc all chip in.

All the good guys and the bad guys rely on Tor for anonymity

Note as you said. A nonprofit in the US. Meaning their financials have to follow US law.

The US state doesn't like China so I doubt would legally allow it.

Russia under the current administration is plausible but there would be user side concern of Kremlin influence and use in their own crimes against humanity.

Fuck Israel so TOR would risk getting boycotted if they take their money.

And as for Eroupe while the least problematic of alternatives they have been musing over having the age verification BS so there is that.

Again the tech is not in question, there is no dispute that TOR provides anaonimity it is simply the State being the donor concern of that being lost. With the State it's privacy for them not us

Daring of them to move from one .org domain to another .org domain. One would've thought that a domain managed by any other country would be a safer bet.

They didn't. They moved to a .ai domain. Which might also be US-based, idk. But it isn't .org.

No, the other commenter was refering to the move to inventati.org which currently mirrors autistici.org.

Most TLDs have wikipedia articles btw.

.ai is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is administered by the government of Anguilla.

    Stop shortening it to antifa.

    That's what they want.

They are going after Anti-Fascist movements.

    They are Fascists.

Don't do their white washing for them.

    Um, ok.

It's been AntiFa long before they co-opted and perverted the term.

And yeah, of course the MAGA brainworm posse is full-on fascist, duh.

It's also pronounced Anti-Fa, with a stress on the first syllable, and not "anteefa".

That's why it's better to just say anti-fascist. Anti-fascist is nowadays the clearest term for it. "Antifa" is constantly being used as a word for "your enemy", so using the same word but with another meaning can become confusing to people who don't know the antifa movement that well (which, let's be honest, it's most people).

they changed the narrative on the term.

antifa is a dog whistle now. call it something else.

Why tf are you letting US fascists take away a term that's been used for a century by anti-fascists across the world? It doesn't even have the Trumpian connotation outside of the US.

why tf are you fighting so hard against something that's so trivial? don't antifascists have more important battles to focus on than using the name "antifa"?

Look, I get it. it's the principle that you feel like they're winning if you abandon "antifa". don't you think that maybe you feel that way because that's what they want you to feel?

instead of focusing on how they want you to be perceived, force them to recognize who you are. you are anti fascist and anyone who argues against that is clearly pro fascist.

the only way to flip the narrative they want is to turn their script upside down.

Wtf are you on about? You are conceding shit that nobody asked you you to concede. I'm not "fighting hard". I replied to a comment on a lemmy post. Nobody thinks that antifa means anything other than anti-fascist except right-wingers in one country I don't live in. Why should I let them control my language?
