Tesla will stop making the Cybertruck next year, according to CEO Elon Musk, who said on X that the company will use the factory space to build more two-seater Cybercab robotaxis.

The decision to wind down the futuristic, steel-clad EV comes after just a few short years of underwhelming sales. When Musk handed over the first few Cybertrucks in late 2023, he predicted Tesla would sell around 250,000 per year. It was supposed to be such a cornerstone of Tesla’s future that, before construction began, the company talked about its Texas factory as the “Cybertruck factory.” But Tesla has instead sold just tens of thousands — total — over the last three years.

How can a company expect to sell over 750,000 cars in 3 years, sell less than 100,000, and not see horrendously tanking stock values? They must have lost so much money on the cybertrucks.

I'm pretty sure that Tesla stock is basically a money laundering scheme that allows oligarchs to pay him large amounts of money for being the one to openly fuck shit up (eg taking the loss to gain control of twitter, being the face of DOGE, openly buddying up with Trump, seeing what the response would be to giving a Nazi salute on live TV, etc).

I suspect he's essentially their lightning rod.
