I don't know if I can justify this 😂 permalink fedilink source hideshow 5 child comments replies: [–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 1 point 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children) I want Graphene* with decent periscope zoom ... that isn't Google. But ouch. Tho I do get that it doesn't get any subsidies from preinstalled bloatspyware. (*well, I want a Linux phone with 10× zoom camera, but I might as well wish for a dragon) permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] InnerScientist@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (3 children) Tho I do get that it doesn't get any subsidies from preinstalled bloatspyware. On the software side, the Signature 27 comes with Android 17 preinstalled, along with the usual Google services, Gemini, and Gemini Intelligence. Motorola says it also includes the new Rambler voice dictation feature, which Google introduced with the Pixel 11 series. It also includes “Create My Widget,” a feature that lets users create widgets to their specifications. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 day ago* (2 children) Oh, just Graphene compatible, my bad (I think this isn't even the fist time I forgot that, ffs). permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 2 points 1 day ago (1 child) Do phone makers get subsidies to ship their hardware with Android preinstalled ? I didn't know that permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 day ago Not for Android directly (tho very encouraged via monopoly bcs Google gets all your data via playservices + profits via playstore), but for other proprietary spyshit (eg preinstalled Facebook app, sometimes users can't even uninstall the app, unless they fiddle with adb) & additionally in cases of megacorps manufacturers get further revenue from users via their own telemetry shit (eg Samsung collects data from your environment that Google misses & sells it to data brokers). (Why else would a random company preinstall so much third party shit? Ofc they don't do it for free. And everyone is interested in spyphone quantity bcs more users means more data. Much like gaming consoles & printers are kinda subsidized/can sell at a manufacturing loss.) So sellers of hardware without for-profit stores & no further revenue streams from spying on you have to charge users clients all the cost upfront on the sticker price. (Not to be confused with the fact that spy-free phones don't have such economies of scale as eg Samsung so their costs per unit are noticeably higher bcs of that too.) permalink fedilink source parent
