TL;DR: We’re launching a new edition called “GNOME OS Preview”, which is built from the latest stable GNOME release. This means that GNOME OS is no longer just a nightly OS for GNOME developers and testers!

Apparently, that seems to be the gist.

It's always made sense to have a reference implementation.

The main change seems to be a preview version now, whereas, previously, it was only a nightly

Yeah, that was my takeaway too. This is the first I've heard of GNOME OS, but I'm glad that they're making it daily drive-able for people that want it. I've rolled KDE Neon for a couple of years on my main machine, it's good that GNOME folks have a similar option now.

They seem to call this version a "preview". I'm not sure if its meant to be considered to be "stable" or more still for the purpose of dev work against a gold standard. From my understanding, its not really designed to replace your desktop yet
