Given the option, I prefer US spying over Chinese spying. Yes, the US, with all its shit, is still better than China since there still is (just a little) more transparent than China.

Having said that, why not neither? Can we please already start having open source hardware?

I think that Snowden (and other leakers) would argue that the US is much much less transparent. Though it is best to just assume that all major govs are spying on everyone (even if it makes an ass out of u and me). Though we can agree on open source hardware.

Snowden? The guy living in Russia because he likes genocidal Putin better?

    Yeah I'm sorry, I'm not a fan.

Also, can you guys please stop defending China? I'm not defending the US, it's a shit show, it's always been a shit show. Well, at least for the past 5 decades or so. China too, is an absolute shit show and has been that for much, much longer.

For all its many many many MANY faults; in the US at least I can still write "fuck the Cheeto Trump" and be sure I won't get a visit from state police. I know, trump will make sure that the US becomes more like China soon, but I fucking double dare you to live in China and make a post every day about how xi is winnie Pooh and how tiananmen square was a massacre back in the 90s

Why would I work for free for the Chinese government or any other government? My Arab country gives me free education, healthcare and subsidized eggs and I still don’t support it uncritically. It’s far more logical and reasonable to attribute your fear of China to racism and chauvinism, and is consistent with what I have seen from your culture, media and politics over the years.

    your culture

    Yeah, not mine, buddy

And I don't give a shit.aboyt your skin color so you can stop the "racism!!!" right there.

You're openly defending a dictatorship that -amongst other fun things- commits genocide. I think we can leave it there already, discussion over.

In a democracy most people get what they want most of the time. Do you honestly believe that people in the US want to go bankrupt every time they need healthcare?

A democracy is the people voting lol. You also get what you vote for, some people vote against themselves. Nice thing about China is the state knows best and you dont need to vote :)

People vote in China. Anyways, this is getting off topic. This Chinese GPU should be judged on technical merits, not based on the form of government or whether China adheres to European cultural and political norms. If that's your only issue with it, then it is an admission that it is a competitive product.

This discussion started with the question "is it better to have a democracy or a dictatorship spy on you" but sure.

China is a communist country governed by one political party that allows only limited democratic activity.

Interesting quote from your link. I'f they adopt democracy and allow fair elections then it wouldn't be a problem but maybe that's too European for your liking

This was never about performance, I hope we get more competitive products.

Israel is a Western liberal democracy that doesn’t make it good; and Nvidia is helping it commit genocide. I would rather a Chinese company spy on me than an American or European company, more so if said company is complicit in genocide. What will the Chinese government do to me? Nothing.

European-style democracy (US and Israel included) is but one form of government, nations are allowed to choose alternative forms. Judging by the outcomes European-style democracy isn’t even the best form of government. Your intolerance of other forms and desire to enforce your own system on others even when your system is clearly broken and failing can only be explained by chauvinism and tacit racism.

Hmm, yeah the ethno-state that is china has never done anything wrong, especially not to its own citizens.

What will the Chinese government do to me?

What will a democratic government do to you?

Nations are allowed to choose alternative forms

Sure, but the people of china don't have much say. If they voice a critical opinion they're silenced, doesn't seem like they're allowed to choose.

I'm sure you've heard the Churchill quote: "Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

You'd rather live under a dictatorship than in a democracy? That's an interesting opinion, not without its merit I'll admit. A benevolent dictator can be the most effective form of government, the problem is what happens after they're gone.

Hmm, yeah the ethno-state that is china has never done anything wrong, especially not to its own citizens.

Ethnostate? I think you’re thinking of Israel. The idea of a “Han supremacist” state comes exclusively from Western propaganda, and the “Uyghur genocide” is a psyop[1][2][3].

Sure, but the people of china don’t have much say. If they voice a critical opinion they’re silenced, doesn’t seem like they’re allowed to choose.

More propaganda. By their own account, Chinese people feel they’re being heard by their government, much more so than Americans do. You can say whatever you like in the US because free speech here is like shouting at the wind.

You’d rather live under a dictatorship

Yet more propaganda. Meanwhile the US has never been democratic; it’s always been an oligarchy.

Propaganda can be overcome by developing real media literacy.

Don’t worry, the US govt will proudly sell the opportunity for palantir or some other bullshit AI surveillance company to embed spyware into your hardware to ensure you’re not a terrorist*

Even if that were true, it'd be better than spyware tracing everything to the US Empire. What's China going to do to me when I live in the US?

Even if China were doing that, what would they do with the information? Nothing, because they don’t give a shit about you, because you’re on the other side of the planet. They’re not doing that because they’re not cartoon villains wasting their time and effort on nefarious plots against Western randos.

Also, almost all of your current hardware came from China, so I guess you’re not actually that worried about it.
