Holy shit have you never watched SG1? Start with the movie then watch SG1. Atlantis begins after season 8.

If you like Star Trek, you’ll love Stargate.

There are a few different choices for watch order.

I don't agree with watching all the Kino webisodes in a row. It makes more sense to me to intersperse them after key episodes. This forum post explores the topic: https://forum.gateworld.net/stargate-universe/82556-quick-question-on-sgu-kino-viewing-order?t=80265

I used Plex to create a master playlist of all of my Stargate content in original broadcast order. So I guess it mostly resembles the “optimized” version , and all crossover references work.

Replying to @ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com here because for some reason, their comment is not federating to my instance.

How did you do that? Please let it not be super manually…

Asking for my MCU, DCU, stargate, doctor who universe, etc etc etc. collections.

Someone made a Python script to automate that for Plex. I do not use Plex, so I cannot vouch for its usefulness at all. But if it works half as well as it is supposed to, that is at least a good starting point and better that doing it entirely manually.

    https://gist.github.com/Nixellion/03eb0f92cbd7ad173f33ecab225333a9

Because I set up a playlist entirely manually with Jellyfin, and it was very tedious. I wished that I could have done something like

    1. Add all items to a playlist
    2. Press the "rearrange playlist in release order" button
    3. Refine the few items that are out of order

But that button in step 2 does not actually exist, so it was a very manual process for me.

With that said, it looks like there is a Jellyfin API Python wrapper that seems to be similar to the Plex wrapper being used in the script linked above. https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-apiclient-python

And, of course, one could always manually manipulate the Jellyfin database file. I am sure there would be a (somewhat involved) way to script the creation of a playlist that way.

Cool, especially if this helps Jellyfin users. Not sure why this is necessary for Plex users tho, since Plex can make this playlist with its own tools. Although, as I mentioned… it may not be immediately obvious how to do this.

Also, cool for you to attempt to make a comment that will federate to different servers 👍

It may not be necessary, but I assume it is less work. Even if the tools to create a playlist exist in the default UI, running that script is hypothetically basically just a one-click "make a Stargate playlist" button, which sounds like it would be less effort than using the default Plex tools to do so.

Yah, I have a Kodi one just sorted by date. Need to look at it and this before my next watch, dropped it in the folder and left a note. Mine doesn't have Origins, although to my shame I have archived it, here's hoping it's not the last, that would be sad.

I watched Origins again last week, and I agree with the last image above in that it should be placed at the end, if you really feel the need to watch it at all. It's a prequel, but it is full of nods to the original series/film that you will not catch if you watch everything in a chronological order.

With that said, it was not made by anyone who was involved in any of the previous shows/films, and breaks multiple aspects of the canon of both the shows and films. Just be prepared before watching it that it should probably be considered its own thing that is simply inspired by the previous shows/films. Not as bad as Infinity, though, in terms of breaking canon and just being something else entirely.

Atlantis begins after season seven and runs in parallel with season eight. A fairly big plot device from the SG1 season eight finale is then used in the Atlantis season one finale.

Sorry, it’s been a while since I had to figure it out, since I just have one big master playlist for all of Stargate in broadcast order, and it sort of interleaves season 8 of SG1 with season, 1 of Atlantis (and all subsequent seasons of both), so, yeah, it runs them parallel with each other, like you said
