I would always put the shopping cart back. Then a friend ended up in jail once he got out the only job he could get was putting shopping carts back and it helped him to get back on hos feet. I will never put it back anymore.

The day after I bought my last car, a shopping cart got caught by the wind and slammed into my door, big scrape. Now I judge people who don't do it. We have several businesses who do reentry programs, including the supermarket itself, who hires convicts to be cashiers. Hardware store and bakery do the same thing, just up the street. If returning carts is the only job an ex convict can get, you need to urge more stores to hire them, not leave your carts around the lot.
