For those who's country's national language is NOT English, how fluent is your English compared to your country's language? (sh.itjust.works)

I was just wondering about all the Europeans (excluding UK)... like do y'all understand... say, an American movie or TV as well as those in your national language?

Not European, but I'm a native English speaker. My parents both speak it and it's what we (almost exclusively) spoke at home. But my mother's family are relatively recent immigrants from England, FWIW.

Though, honestly, most (but far from all) people I know also speaks English. On any given day I only have a handful of conversations in any other language.

So I understand American movies pretty well. But I'm unable to compare to movies in the national language, because my country doesn't have a national language.
