On Tuesday night, as election results poured in, it became immediately clear: anti-transgender ads had failed to earn Republicans a victory in the year they relied on them the most. Despite $183 million spent on ads targeting transgender people and any Democratic politician who had ever expressed support for them, even Democrats who openly supported transgender people won in Republican strongholds. As a trans woman won her race in a conservative Alabama district and fierce defenders like Peggy Flanagan won Minnesota’s U.S. Senate race, there was a lot to be hopeful about.

Is this just anti-trans bigotry or anti-women?

    ¿Por que no los dos?

How many girls will not go into sports if they have to go through this type of abuse? There are many men who are very against the gains women have made in sports over the last couple decades and this would probably roll things back quite a bit.

    Unfortunately, I think that's the point :(

All that just to humiliate trans kids.

And it wasn't even a close vote. Jesus. So many people got got by the billion dollar hate propaganda and disinformation campaign. Every time this alters a child's lifepath, musk should get donkey kicked in the head by a horse wearing a red cardigan, slacks, blue boat shoes, and a Jerry Seinfeld mask.

I also hope the opportunists who don't really care either way figure out that it's a losing proposition to focus on trans rights as a populist way to gain votes. Then those who actually care about human rights can oppose the Nazis unhindered.

When the overton window is moved, we all (I'm cis) are at risk due to being in out groups. Move it back and the bigots become the figurative old man shouting at clouds.

Simple. Lodge a complaint for every student taking in part in school activities claiming they're the opposite sex which would change it from just the girls to literally everyone and that will change things.

If they actually try inspecting then start lodging sexual assault claims and claim the inspector is the opposite sex and thus must be tested so we know the tester is testing the correct sex.

Essentially wrap them up in bureaucracy that drains funding. They'll cut that shit when they find out it's going to be several hundred thousand dollars to actually do and likely more like a half million per district to try to fight.

I only know and care about women's sports because people are complaining. I'd only care about women in men's sports if men complained

Comments from someone who could not understand how their comments on anti trans bills were attacking anyone

Ok, when I see "Dems" I'm thinking politicians or at least party members, not everyone who voted for a candidate with (D) next to their name, so now your comment makes more sense.

WA isn't nearly as "overwhelmingly blue" as a lot of people seem to think, though. It's basically a couple of blue cities in a sea of red, just like a lot of other states. It usually shakes out to mostly blue statewide candidates, but the margin isn't that big.

It doesn't take a lot of otherwise blue bigots or people confused by the deliberately obfuscated language on the ballot to swing that vote, is what I'm saying. I'm still crossing my fingers that it'll end up failing, since more progressive districts are larger and take longer to count, but even if it fails it would be at a margin closer than I'm comfortable with.

I do suspect that if it passes, it would get repealed in the next election as soon as people realize the implications, but we'll see what happens.

Its all usually targeted at women's sports because they're obsessed with the idea that it means trans women are cheating by being in women sports because men are big and strong, nevermind what HRT does.

Also trans women in women's lockers is super scary to them, but less the other way.

No Statewide election in WA is callable yet. We vote by mail, and the more progressive areas around Seattle tend to mail their ballots late. Last Year Bruce Harrel had a commanding lead for Mayor of Seattle on the morning after the election deadline but after a week or so of counting Mayor Wilson won. This is likely to go the same way, although it's hard to say if it'll be enough at this point. Give it a week or so and then we'll know for sure.
