Environs KImberley is asking us to send a submission (pre-filled) to the EPA.

Federal public comment is now open on the Kimberley’s first large-scale AI data centre proposal. It's thought that this AI data centre, if approved, will be used to help train AI models internationally.

Located 100 km south of Broome on iconic pindan country, and just 15 km south-east of Bidyadanga, Gingerah Energy’s 'Meridien' proposal has a monstrous footprint, around 3.3 times larger than Sydney Harbour.

The proposal is a joint venture between Fugro Exploration Pty Ltd, a primarily Dutch-owned company, and Longreach Renewable Energies Pty Ltd. Its parent company, Longreach Capital Investment Pty Ltd, owns Theia Energy, a company that has previously applied to the WA EPA to undertake fracking in the Kimberley.

The proposal lies within known habitat for threatened species, including the Greater Bilby and Blue-tongue Skink and raises serious concerns about impacts on migratory birds and water resources.

Please take action: We are calling for the referral to be rejected under s76 of the EPBC Act due to insufficient information in the referral documentation presented by the proponent. There’s not enough information about impacts to migratory birds, impacts from groundwater extraction and where the gas for the proposed 1,500 MW gas-fired power station would come from. One of the companies involved with this proposal owns Theia Energy Pty Ltd which applied to do fracking in the Kimberley and then withdrew the proposal.

Once the company provides the required information, the proposal should be assessed under the EPBC Act at the highest level.

I live a little outside Perth and often see the haze present over the metro area after a failry still night. Its pretty immense, I don't think people in Perth realise the haze we're living in.

Activists and a Greens MP have threatened legal action after the Western Australia police banned at least 12 people entering a designated security area where the Land Forces weapons expo will be held in Perth from 6 October.

The police used special powers given to them by the WA government last month to ban the activists from entering the area surrounding the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Two of the activists, 18-year-old Will Shanahan and 22-year-old Matilda Lane-Rose, said in a media conference held with the Greens MP Sophie McNeill on Friday they would take legal action if police and the police minister, Reece Whitby, did not revise the ban.

“We’ve sought legal advice, and we think that we have standing to pursue a judicial review into this decision,” said Lane-Rose, who works as a staffer for McNeill.

Every year, more than 21,000 injured, sick and orphaned native animals rely on wildlife rehabilitation organisations for rescue, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation.

Most Western Australians assume there is a government-funded wildlife rescue system ready to help.

There isn't.

More than 80% of wildlife rescue, treatment and rehabilitation across Western Australia is carried out by just six charitable wildlife organisations, supported by around 90 smaller wildlife rehabilitation groups and licensed rehabilitators across the State.

There is a lot of very interesting information about wildlife care and what it faces in WA. The petition has been put up by www.wragwa.org/step-up-for-wildlife
