Wonderfully-helpful/informative post.

I don't yet have any communitiies of my own ( let-alone instances, but now PieFed managed-hosting is available, haven't tried it, on Elest.io ),

but you have answered all the questions I didn't-know I needed the answers to, before committing 100% to which kind of instance to run on.

I agree with you on the Codeberg thing, too: having Microsoft have the authority over whether one's codebase has a home .. no.

I like your idea of using flaires for coarse-genre but hashtags for fine-genre!

'wish I'd thought of that!

Now that's more like it. When Bowie died, every part of the world I could perceive just shrugged and went on. I couldn't understand why it wasn't like when Elvis or Jackson died. Christ, even Liberace got more than one news cycle.

When Bowie died I was at one of his shows, he explained that playing on platine made the best song, everyone made a mournful silence and listen to the needle sound on the vynil. He put his Koala’s costume, start dancing in the audience and Modern Love started. One of the most beautiful things I ever witnessed

Windsor is truly a city of time lol

Content being here for now but I am already trying to leave for literally any opportunity in Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal. I was born in Windsor, and my short opinion on it is that it has certainly earned its reputation.

This is great! Thanks for this, I'm still relatively new to Canadian music and how to navigate the music scene in Canada. I'll make a link for this on the sidebar.

This might be a bit of a more sobering post here, but I felt that this was a important piece of Canadian history that was worthwhile to share. I work in the Canadian Cultural Heritage sector, so sharing stuff like this is technically my day job.

And no, you may not discuss gun control laws in MapleMusic. You may form your opinions, but I ask you find a more appropriate community to share them in on lemmy.
