I don't usually find flies to be cute, but that proboscis and those eyes make me think of a dog panting.

I found many of these beautiful violets in a swampy area. There still aren't too many flowers blooming yet. The next few weeks should see many other species pop out like my personal favorites the irises. I can't wait!

I believe this is in the Toxomerus genus (Calligrapher flies). I could be completely wrong so feel free to correct me. I can't tell what species specifically it is, but it looks cool perched on this leaf.

Taken with my OM1 + 60mm macro.

I'm fairly sure this spider is in the Philodromidae family of crab spiders. Maybe it's in the Ebo genus, but I don't dare guess the species. I could also have this ID completely wrong. Any arachnophiles can feel free to correct me. I found this little dude on an apple tree.

I took this with an OM1 and 60mm macro with 26mm tubes.

I was birding again and stumbled upon this little jumper on a developing acorn. I swapped to my macro for the close ups, but my telephoto did pretty well for those zoomed out shots. "Eris" is the Greek goddess of discord and strife. "Militaris" is Latin for "of a soldier" or "military", so this spider's name is "discord of a soldier" which is pretty badass imo. This spider wasn't too interested in the many tiny beetles that walked right up to it. I was hoping I could get some action shots, but alas.

I wanted to try some focus stacked macro shots and this is probably the best of them. The stack is 7 images, 1:1 macro.

I saw these blossoming deep in the wood and plucked one for a photo. I suspect some birds ate some seeds because they're not a native species. I'm liking my new lens. I'm ready for bug season.

I'm walking around the yard looking for cool stuff to photograph after our ice storm and this beautiful lichen encased in ice caught my eye. Wow is it gorgeous! I'm really loving my new 60mm f/2.8 macro lens.

Here's a shot of a female European wool carder bee (Anthidium manicatum) on a house leek (Sempervivum tectorum),

This was taken using the Canon MP-E65mm lens and since this lens physically can't take photos in focus at a distance greater than 101 mm / 4" it is a bit tricky to get close enough without scaring it away - and also fast enough for it to not leave for the next flower.

Here it worked out though and I was rewarded with lots of nice detail on those spotted eyes and also, on the right side of the shot you can see yellow pollen flying around as she is climbing around on the flower.

My first attempt at snowflake macro, and while not the best I think it was a cool learning experience. Snowflakes are so beautiful. I love how nature is chock-full of fantastic fractals. Next is to attempt some focus bracketed shots. All images were quickly processed with Darktable.
