All Natives Resist Colonists

There is no justification for such a belief. It may be that some individual Arabs take bribes. But that does not mean that the Arab people of Palestine as a whole will sell that fervent patriotism that they guard so jealously, and which even the Papuans will never sell. Every native population in the world resists colonists as long as it has the slightest hope of being able to rid itself of the danger of being colonised.

“If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal; we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us, but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They see but one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that?” David Ben-Gurion (the first Israeli Prime Minister): Quoted by Nahum Goldmann in Le Paraddoxe Juif (The Jewish Paradox), pp121.

“Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves … politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves… The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down, and in their view we want to take away from them their country. … Behind the terrorism [by the Arabs] is a movement, which though primitive is not devoid of idealism and self sacrifice.” — David Ben Gurion. Quoted on pp 91-2 of Chomsky’s Fateful Triangle, which appears in Simha Flapan’s “Zionism and the Palestinians pp 141-2 citing a 1938 speech.

“We must do everything to insure they (the Palestinians) never do return.” David Ben-Gurion, in his diary, 18 July 1948, quoted in Michael Bar Zohar’s Ben-Gurion: the Armed Prophet, Prentice-Hall, 1967, p. 157.

Ben Gurion also warned in 1948: Assuring his fellow Zionists that Palestinians will never come back to their homes: “The old will die and the young will forget.”

“We should prepare to go over to the offensive. Our aim is to smash Lebanon, Trans-Jordan, and Syria. The weak point is Lebanon, for the Moslem regime is artificial and easy for us to undermine. We shall establish a Christian state there, and then we will smash the Arab Legion, eliminate Trans-Jordan; Syria will fall to us. We then bomb and move on and take Port Said, Alexandria and Sinai.” David Ben-Gurion May 1948, to the General Staff. From Ben-Gurion, a Biography, by Michael Ben-Zohar, Delacorte, New York 1978.

Ben-Gurion, Zichronot [Memoirs], Vol. 4, p.297-299, p. 330-331. See also Teveth, Ben-Gurion and the Palestinian Arabs, p. 182-189

Ben-Gurion in an address to the central committee of the Histadrut on 30 December 1947: “In the area allocated to the Jewish State there are not more than 520,000 Jews and about 350,000 non-Jews, mostly Arabs. Together with the Jews of Jerusalem, the total population of the Jewish State at the time of its establishment will be about a million, including almost 40 percent non-Jews. Such a [population] composition does not provide a stable basis for a Jewish State. This [demographic] fact must be viewed in all its clarity and acuteness. With such a [population] composition, there cannot even be absolute certainty that control will remain in the hands of the Jewish majority…. There can be no stable and strong Jewish State so long as it has a Jewish majority of only 60 percent.”

On the 6th of February 1948, during a Mapai Party Council, Ben-Gurion responded to a remark from a member of the audience that “we have no land there” [in the hills and mountains west of Jerusalem] by saying: “The war will give us the land. The concepts of “ours” and “not ours” are peace concepts, only, and in war they lose their whole meaning” (Ben-Gurion, War Diary, Vol. 1, entry dated 6 February 1948. p.211)

Addressing the Mapai Council the following day, Ben-Gurion declared: “From your entry into Jerusalem, through Lifta, Romema… there are no Arabs. One hundred percent Jews. Since Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans, it has not been so Jewish. In many Arab neighborhoods in the west one sees not a single Arab. I do not assume that this will change… What had happened in Jerusalem… is likely to happen in many parts of the country …in the six, eight or ten months of the campaign there will certainly be great changes in the composition of the population in the country.” (Ben-Gurion, War Diary, Vol. 1, entry dated 7 February 1948. p. 210-211)

And two months later, Ben-Gurion speaking to the Zionist Actions Committee on 6 April, Ben-Gurion declared: “We will not be able to win the war if we do not, during the war, populate upper and lower, eastern and western Galilee, the Negev and Jerusalem area….I believe that war will also bring in its wake a great change in the distribution of the Arab population.” [Ben-Gurion, Behilahem Yisrael, Tel Aviv, Mapai Press, 1952, pp. 86-87]

Ben-Gurion wrote in his diary on 12 July 1937: “the compulsory transfer of the Arabs from the valleys of the projected Jewish State…. We have to stick to this conclusion the same way we grabbed the Balfour Declaration, more than that, the same way we grabbed at Zionism itself.” (Ben-Gurion, Zichronot [Memoirs], Vol. 4, p. 299)

“Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because geography books no longer exist. Not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar Yehushua in the place of Tal Al-Shuman. There is not a single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population.” (Moshe Dayan, address to the Technion, Haifa, reported in Haaretz, April 4, 1969.

“It is the duty of Israeli leaders to explain to public opinion, clearly and courageously, a certain number of facts that are forgotten with time. The first of these is that there is no Zionism, colonialization or Jewish State without the eviction of the Arabs and the expropriation of their lands.” (Yoram Bar Porath, Yediot Aahronot of July 14, 1972.)

Human rights organizations published a 45-page report on the registration of 23 cases of the Zionist regime's army of white phosphorus ammunition in southern Lebanon and called for the development of new international laws to contain these destructive weapons.

Human Rights Watch and the International Human Rights Clinic of Harvard Law School said in a recent report published that the Zionist army's recent use of white phosphorus ammunition in Lebanon highlights the need to develop new international law to monitor and control these destructive weapons.

The groups called on countries to address the issue at a one-month disarmament meeting of the UN General Assembly, which is scheduled to be held in October 2016 (September/November 1405) in New York.

This 45-page report titled "Unreservable Burning: Inhuman Consequences of White Phosphorus Ammunition and the Need for Stronger Laws" has documented the ۲۳ approved use of these ammunition in southern Lebanon in the March period (Esfand/Farvardin) to May 2016 (May/Khordad 1405). The report also describes the horrific damage that the ammunition has caused during the armed conflict in recent years.

Ammos containing white phosphorus, which are exposed to oxygen by their content, are currently not subject to any specific treaty or treaty to control and monitor.

Bonnie Ducherty, senior arms consultant at Human Rights Watch and expert at the Harvard School of Law Clinic for International Human Rights, said White phosphorus ammunition can cause very painful burns and cause lifelong physical, psychological, and socio-economic damage. Countries must condemn the continued use of white phosphorus ammunition, call for further international dialogue, and ensure that international law appropriately addresses the unacceptable human consequences of these weapons.

The findings of this report are based on legal analysis, open-source research, 16 in-person and remote interviews, monitoring diplomatic processes and library studies.

Other uses of white phosphorus ammunition that have been reported since the year 2000 are the use of the use by the Zionist regime in Gaza during the years 2008 to 2009 and 2013; the use of the US-led coalition forces in Iraq and Syria in 2017; the use of the coalition forces led by the United States in Iraq and Syria in 2017; the use of the coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia in Yemen.

White phosphorus ammunition that explodes in the skies of residential areas are considered non-discriminatory weapons, meaning they are unable to separate the military and civilians, and therefore violate the general principles of international humanitarian law. However, despite the fire-tracking effects of these ammunition, white phosphorus is not subject to the Third Protocol of the Convention on Conventions (CCWs) adopted in the 1980s, which is dedicated to the provisions of incendiary weapons.

This protocol defines incendiary weapons as weapons designed primarily to create fire and burn people. This definition includes weapons designed for other purposes.

It doesn’t, even if they create the same effects of fire. White phosphorus ammunition is also not included in this category, as the main purpose of their design is to create a cover (smode) or lighting for military operations.

Human rights organizations assess white phosphorus ammunition based on the Martens principle; the principle in international humanitarian law that stipulates that in the absence of a particular treaty on a subject, civilians and military are protected by the principles of humanity and the requirements of public conscience.

The groups said in their report that the use of white phosphorus ammunition is an example of the use of the Martens principle. Inhuman and difficult wounds of treatment from these weapons are inconsistent with the principles of humanity. White phosphorus can burn people’s bodies to the bone, and the remaining particles in the wound may flare up again when removing the dressing and in contact with oxygen.

Protests by countries, international organizations, human rights groups and medical professionals show that the use of these ammunition is inconsistent with the requirements of public conscience. They stressed that in order to address these issues, stronger and more concrete international law is needed.

Dutchmant said diplomats, doctors, UN inspectors and others have expressed disgust with the brutal injuries caused by white phosphorus ammunition. Countries have already ratified treaties on toxic gases and blind lasers because they were inhumane and inconsistent with public conscience. They should take the same approach on white phosphorus ammunition.

Because white phosphorus ammunition is designed for use because of their burning capability, they are not considered chemical weapons and are not covered by the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Much of the debate on white phosphorus ammunition has been conducted under the supervision of the Convention on Convention on Convention. Dozens of countries have condemned the damage and called for exclusive discussions on the issue.

altr Former Israeli soldier Eden Abergil's Facebook photos of her posing with Palestinian prisoners has sparked accusations that 'souvenir photos' are widespread in the army. Veterans' group Breaking the Silence has released a number of soldiers' pictures, some showing dead Palestinians. The pictures were released with the soldiers' faces obscured, apart from the image of Abergil. The Guardian has pixellated the faces of the Palestinians

Without people like this there would literally be no journalism left.

Seven months after the so-called ceasefire, people in Gaza say the war has not ended. Bisan Owda reports from Gaza, where bombings continue, large parts of the territory remain inaccessible and families are still living in tents on top of the rubble of their homes.

“They say the war ended. But it didn’t.” With children walking to school under fire and people struggling to access water and basic needs, daily life is still shaped by uncertainty and loss. At the edge of it all, the sea remains one of the few places where people can gather to find a moment of calm.

“They cannot destroy the sea.”

An Israeli parliamentary committee has advanced a bill to allow the execution of Palestinian prisoners.

Under the bill, judges would be able to impose the death penalty on Palestinians who kill Israelis based on so-called “nationalistic” motives. The law would not apply to Israelis who kill Palestinians under similar circumstances.

The bill - introduced by Limor Son Har-Melech, a lawmaker from Itamar Ben Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party - was approved on Sunday by the Knesset’s National Security Committee, with four lawmakers voting in favour and one against.
