I love detaching from google
comments
Well Chromebooks failed so badly at my kids school, as it's a race to the bottom in terms of spec and cost. The Chromebooks were so craptastic that every kid never wanted to go near one again.
I think that your comment describes your comment better than it describes his comment. Do you want to talk about your irrational allegience to corporations?
Who? The corporate Dems or the corporate Reps? Pretty sure neither party has an interest.
The funny thing is that they're right to an extent, they HAVE coupled their search engine so tightly to their shitty AI that you cannot get to anything you're searching for anymore, it's 100% SEO bullshit that will ignore your search terms for whatever Gemini decides you want instead.
When Microsoft pulled this shit with IE/Windows they lost an antitrust case and were ordered to be broken up. They got away with the breakup on appeal, but the loss haunted them and helped prevent further enshitification for years.
Somebody should remind Google of this.
Search and AI are deeply integrated
Oh bullshit. Search engines have existed for over two decades, GenAI has existed for less than 5.
The only "deep integration" is Google's desperation to justify to shareholders that burning their money on AI was worth it by virtue of forcing it down everyone's throats.
Oh sure, Google didn't come up with this. Neither did Apple - although they're probably the ones who first applied the scheme to computers.
What a weird comment, it sounds like you have stuff you want to talk about if you’re shoving them into this conversation
Why do you think Apple computers were in most all US schools since the '80s? It's the same logic. Now many people are addicted to their overpriced Macs and iPhones.
Google learned something important from McDonald's: if you hook them young, they're captive customers for the rest of their lives. That's why Google made the Chromebooks.
So it's very important to Google that the next generation be exposed to the brainwashing as early as possible, and they won't let pesky learning institutions get in the way.
The enshitification will continue until morale has improved...
I can only hope this gets more people looking at how entrenched Google is in schools, and starts a conversation on transitioning schools to OSS.
Lots of this stuff simply isn't required, and Google has made people think they just have to have these invasive solutions.
Actually? Yeah. Most people don't use that word correctly, but this fits.
standard enshittification pipeline, isn't it?
Aren't most of these meta-search engines, or in DDG's case basically just Bing in a trenchcoat with some filters? What happens when the other big ones go to shit?
Don’t threaten me with a good time.
don't be evil.
That was the big tell.
What a bunch of evil fucks.
They know ai is causing cognitive issues in children, and they just push it anyway.
always a great sign for business when your users are users because they're forced to be users
Thier multi billion dollar investment is good for finding songs from lyrics you don't really remember but I'm not sure it's worth it honestly
"Use our AI or we'll stop manipulating your children!"
They've already made their search near-useless, there are better options out there.
Oh no, what will they do ?! 🥴
