Google learned something important from McDonald's: if you hook them young, they're captive customers for the rest of their lives. That's why Google made the Chromebooks.

So it's very important to Google that the next generation be exposed to the brainwashing as early as possible, and they won't let pesky learning institutions get in the way.

Why do you think Apple computers were in most all US schools since the '80s? It's the same logic. Now many people are addicted to their overpriced Macs and iPhones.

Search and AI are deeply integrated

Oh bullshit. Search engines have existed for over two decades, GenAI has existed for less than 5.

The only "deep integration" is Google's desperation to justify to shareholders that burning their money on AI was worth it by virtue of forcing it down everyone's throats.

When Microsoft pulled this shit with IE/Windows they lost an antitrust case and were ordered to be broken up. They got away with the breakup on appeal, but the loss haunted them and helped prevent further enshitification for years.

Somebody should remind Google of this.

I can only hope this gets more people looking at how entrenched Google is in schools, and starts a conversation on transitioning schools to OSS.

Lots of this stuff simply isn't required, and Google has made people think they just have to have these invasive solutions.

The funny thing is that they're right to an extent, they HAVE coupled their search engine so tightly to their shitty AI that you cannot get to anything you're searching for anymore, it's 100% SEO bullshit that will ignore your search terms for whatever Gemini decides you want instead.

The enshitification will continue until morale has improved...
