This is a bit tangental to whats being talked about but I think more thought has to be to look at good systems like the way we do physical mail and have the same rights with other forms of communication. I think that private companies engaged in these activities should have to meet the same requirements.

It creates a facade of "everything is fine", and then makes witnesses less credible when they talk about it.

I have bumped into two former mainlanders that were at the tiananmen square protests. What they say is not what the government says happened. And Chinese supporters will claim expats are just negative of the country they left.

I am not sure about the intention of this community as the linked content isn't what we would describe as classical disinformation, but it's an essential part of the Chinese government's (dis)dinformation warfare imo: eliminating everything that would make the government look bad.

Seems like they'd be better off using that money to put down a certain group of rabid dictatorial trolls - misinformation seems free when decisions like that are made - first waste money and lives on a stupid war, then waste more money on continuing to make poor decisions - todays "leadership" what can one do?

Are people obliged to couch any review of a country with a 30 second statement on how a segment of the population is racist and a list of government policies that are oppressive? China or not?

Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summons Russian diplomat yet again over the latest blatant misinformation disseminated by that aggressor state, US backs Latvia at United Nations Security Council

Latvia’s UN representative Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes responded to Russian allegations and threats saying:

“I will just repeat that lies and aggressive disinformation and threats are a sign of despair and weakness, and we have seen similar lies addressed against other members of this council in the previous meetings, so I’m very honoured to have the attention drawn to my country today.”

In a notable intervention, US representative Tammy Bruce stood up for Latvia, warning Russia that "There is no place for threats against a Council member" and the US keeps its NATO commitments. More about what was said at the UNSC meeting is available here.
