Since there's low activity on the individual game day threads, we thought a better option would be to just have one stickied thread for all* games.

*All is defined as...2026 regular season and post season games? We'll figure it out as we go along.

Ideally there'll be a top level comment for the game in question, and the comments for that game can be posted as replies to that comment. If there's no top-level comment for a game you want to comment on, go ahead and start one.

Suggested wording for the top level comment should be something like: "Ducks @ Caps, 1/5/26". We're not going to be rigorous here, just be clear what game you're talking about.

Let's go Caps!

Welcome to c/Caps!

As moderators of this community, we want to share an important update regarding its direction.

Based on our current subscriber count and level of engagement, we’ve decided to put the individual game day posts on pause for now and replace them with a general, stickied post for comment threads about specific games. To be clear, we’re still here, and we encourage all Caps fans to continue posting and commenting in both c/Caps and !hockey@lemmy.ca.

We appreciate your support and contributions, and we look forward to seeing where this journey takes us!

Thank you for being part of our community.

Best,

I like them. I'm glad we finally upgraded.

Seeing way too many behind the Caps goal tonight...

Leonard signs 8x$10.5, a couple hours later Sourdif signs for 8x$6.35. Under the new CBA which began midnight (EST) of September 16, the maximum contract length is seven years. Sourdif gets the distinction of the very last eight-year deal.

Drake Batherson (for Ottawa) was the only other player to sign for eight years on the last possible day, shortly before Leonard's contract was finalized.

New suites and clubs (districtmomentum.com)

My wife turned 40 a few years ago, so we rented a suite at Capital One for a party. It was great. Especially being able to watch a play, then turn to the TV and see it happen again, with better replays. Private bathroom, too. I'll admit, it was hard to go back to the regular seats.

Anyway, that was a long way of saying that I'm on the suite mailing list now, and they sent out this link to the renovations. The suites look nice. Check out the club (Acela club a long time ago, but I forget what it has been called me recently), too, which is pretty clearly aimed at businesses.

I told my wife it's probably a good thing she turned 40 before these renovations. I think we were in for something like $7k before it was all over (which included tickets for ~19 people, free food and beverages, the cake, etc). I suspect it would be a lot more now.

I know you're wondering: The Caps lost to Nashville the night we were in the suite.

We regularly check out "our" suite and see it empty at many games we go to. (It's easy to see from our regular seats.)

These photos show the future F Street entrance taking shape, the old F street entrance and expanded building footprint to hold new main escalators, removed exterior at the top of the building to hold expanded concourse space with more natural light, and the complete renovation of our concourse restrooms. Approximately half of the restrooms will reopen for this upcoming season, with the remainder coming in fall 2027.

And now Tuch (lemmy.world)

Now they traded for Alex Tuch and signed him to an 8 year deal.

Yes, Tuch, of The Save. That guy.

I've felt like the writing has been on the wall for McMichael for a while, even in his career year in 24-25 his name consistently appeared as a piece in trade rumors surrounding us.

My impressions about our prospects are essentially entirely based on hype and not observation, so I can't say anything notable on Gastrin other than he got some generic praise when he was inserted for a couple games in the Bears playoffs a few months back. There was a draft-room video posted after last year's draft that showed he was one of two guys our front office was targeting with that pick. (The other was a russian that Montreal took a few picks ahead of us.) Everything I've heard about him since then has been tempered praise, obviously prospects are unpredictable at this point but I'm sure there's a reason they felt comfortable using him as an add-in.

I'll admit I haven't watched a lot of Kyrou. He had a severe down year last year, but he waived his NTC to come here and at this point it's hard to question our pro scouting department. If our pro scouts and Carbery think he'll be brought back to form then I'm pumped.

I'm new to the glory of hockey. I'd not seen Caps play before, and I know Rangers are doing well but it was still a big loss. I was expecting/hoping for some drama from Wilson but he only did a few rough hits.

Are you guys having a particularly rough few weeks or something?

Wow. Did not see that coming.

The Washington Capitals have acquired a second-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft, a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft (originally from San Jose) and goaltender Jesper Vikman from the Vegas Golden Knights for forward Nic Dowd, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today.

I'm really sad to see him go, and especially sad to see him go to a team I'm inclined to root against, but I can recognize this is a good move for the team. His age has been catching up to him a bit and the return is not bad. It also lets us have both Sourdif and McMichael playing center when the lineup is healthy, and both seem to do better there than on wing.

This has to be an overzealous security guard, or someone complaining, something like that - but, last night, the fan who does the horn sound throughout the game (to which the crowd replies, "Let's go Caps") was told to no longer use his horn, or he'd be kicked out. He was told that he shouldn't have been allowed in with the horn, and that "rules change".

If you check the comments, apparently Ted granted him permission in 2003 via email to bring the horn in specifically for that purpose.

I'm hoping this was a misinformed security guard, something like that, and not an organizational decision. I can't believe the Caps organization would do something that dumb. And, yes, I know they traded Forsberg.
