I plan on using the information in the page -->https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-create-and-configure-bridge-networking-for-kvm-in-linux/ <-- but wanted to see if ya'll had any pointers. I want to and am only going to use virtual machine manager and debian 13. Any help would be nice. I think I got to create a bridge or something.

Hello all

So I have a weird situation, where I accidentally removed an SD card before unmounting it properly and it got corrupted.

I then did a fsck which filled the card with a lot of fsck-files, but got the card working but only in a read-state.

I then used KDE's partitionmanager to repair the partition. Which made me able to write to the card again.

I then deleted all the fsck-files - I don't know if that was smart, but some googling told me it would be safe. Which is was, sort off.

Because now my SD card work. Files stay on the card - I use it in a China retro handheld - and the roms play just fine.

The weird thing is that after deleting all of the fsck-files, the card only show up as having used ~3GB, while all the roms take up ~60GB.

Does anyone know why that is? And possibly how to fix it? It is not a big deal, I just can't find an answer to why it happens or any solution. But any input would be very much appreciated.

I'm installing an AMD video card into a Catchy OS system that's been running Nvidia. Both are discrete cards.

What should I expect? Obviously I'll have to uninstall the Nvidia stuff. Should I do that before installing the new card?

I was curious about CatchyOS, but I understand it's really intended for the latest and greatest hardware. One of the few distros that not friendly to older tech. I only have an older machine to test:

B450 Aorus M

Ryzen 7 5700

GTX 1660 Ti

32GB DD4

Would it be worth testing Catchy on this machine, or is my hardware too old to play?

So.. I can't believe this is even a rabbit hole that I had to go down.

99/10 I find linux operates in a more "it just works" fashion, or at least, I can find some way of getting it to work.

But I have come up against one of the most baffling issues: Is it basically impossible to torrent directly to a network drive in linux?

I'm downloading a largish scientific torrent. Its ~1.5 tb. I consider that to be a big, but not really that big of a dataset.

And what I can-not fathom, is that for whatever reason, it seems practically impossible to torrent directly from my (user) machine to a network attached storage device.

Has any one else ever encountered this issue? This seems ridiculous to me and that I must be missing something very very obvious. But to get this to work, I ended up having to install a torrent client on my NAS and download it directly. Which is not my preferred way to do things.

Thoughts? Reactions? Have you encountered this issue yourself?

Serious (if hilarious) question. Someone linked me to this, but they were unable to provide context, but it's an official justice.gov link!

I've been following the news around latest release (who hasn't) but I've not done any digging into the actual files myself. I was wondering if someone who's more familiar with them could provide some context as to why this is in there? I don't really want to wade through that filth myself, honestly, but I did try searching "BASH" but didn't really see anything that looked relevant.

Was Epstein pro FOSS? Was someone helping him troubleshoot something? WTF is this doing there!? I have to know!?

Tux has some explaining to do!

I use a USBC docking hub and DP to connect to external monitor.

Everytime I connect to my external monitor(Linux mint) after connecting it to windows, external display just doesn't work. Only solution is to restart my Laptop, only then the external display works.

Any solutions? Without restarting my computer?

Why people change Distro? (thisfieldshouldnotberequired.foff)

I'm literally deciding which distro to install as a first timer. It's my understanding that Mint is the best for beginners migrating from M$ but knowing nothing about why this is the case one thing nags me:

Why do people switch distro's? What isn't in Mint that you get elsewhere? I really don't want to waste time using Mint if I'm just going to have to reinstall something else because it turns out it is bad for gaming or doesn't support many devices or something.

Title. I'm annoyed. It's 18c a page, and $9ish shipping, but still.

It's been a looooooong time since I've done anything with printers, so I don't know what my options are.

Really I only have 2 requirements

  1. works well with Linux
  2. ink prices are sane

any suggestions?

when I want to run a file manager or firefox from terminal, how can I surpress output and run it in the background as quickly as possible?

My current approach (an example starting thunar file manager in background):

thunar ./hello.txt&

but sometimes messages still pop up in the terminal then ...

Gnome and Wayland (Fedora)

Work: DP monitor enabled, HDMI monitor disabled. Play: DP monitor disabled, HDMI enabled.

Is it possible to shortcut this/make a script - monitor toggle script? Now I have to go to settings and switch off monitor1 and on monitor2 (and vica versa).

Although I work with Audio, I have no real clue on how audio works on Linux, despite using it since Kernel 0.97...

What I have: I've got a machine with normal onboard audio IOs and a BT dongle. It is running Ubuntu Server.

What I want: I want it to take the analog signal from LineIn and forward this to a BT speaker linked to the BT dongle. This should preferably run like a service, so it autostarts when booting the server.

Any idea where to start, which programs and systems to look for?

These 18TB drives I have (two of them) are both fine. If I put in my Windows 7 hard drive, windows mounts just fine.

But on my Linux Mint iso usb boot stick, and on my rescuezilla usb boot stick, both sticks refuse to mount these usb drives.

They worked until last night, when my main OS crashed, and won't boot at all now. Luckily I made a backup last night using rescuezilla before I updated.

Which doesn't do me much good when the backup is 600gb, and I don't have a usb stick that big to transfer to, and rescuezilla isn't mounting my hard drives it's saved on.

What do I do?
