A Maryland hairdresser who voted for Donald Trump in 2024 after believing his promises to lower living costs said she has since lost her home and car, struggled to pay her credit cards, and watched customers disappear from her business. Now, she bitterly regrets helping return him to the White House, declaring that only the devil could govern with such cruelty.

Celia Salmerón, 58, accused the Trump administration of bringing hardship rather than the financial relief he promised voters. She immigrated from El Salvador as a child, and now runs a hair salon in a working-class Maryland neighbourhood with a large Hispanic population.

'He promised to give us money. But he didn't give us anything. What he gave us this time were problems,' Salmerón recently told a media outlet, adding that she had been unable to keep up with her debts and had lost almost everything she worked to build.

'Ever since Trump came in, I have been bankrupt. I have lost everything: my house, my car. I can't pay my credit cards,' she said.

Attacks by Jewish extremists and a mealy-mouthed response from Netanyahu undermine Israel’s ability to prevent new sanctions against settlements, to restore relations with key partners, and to show Israel cares about Christians. Instead of denouncing and combating the attacks, he has consistently downplayed them, even before last weekend.

He took that approach during his UN speech last month, saying a “handful of juvenile delinquents” cause “maybe two or three dead” every year, while Israelis in the West Bank face thousands of terrorist attacks.

What could he be thinking?

Hmmmmm I wonder what Netanyahu could be thinking.....

I mean, Trump has to keep the price periodically high for oil for the pump and dumps to work so not a pure LAMF moment but still it counts for me because it is possibly the one on the grandest scale I have ever seen in my lifetime in terms of the choices of a single individual.

The problem with suing a leopard after it has eaten your face is even if you win you still had your face eaten.

“I’m in Texas, and it seems like every commercial break has 4–6 political ads, most of them attacking James Talarico,” the post starts, before lamenting, “My kids didn’t even know what transgender meant until these ads started airing. Now they’re hearing about it constantly, and not because they went looking for it. The anti-Talarico ads seem to talk about these issues more than anyone else does. It irritates me especially when I don’t want to explain what they’re talking about to my children.”

According to him, this brain drain is not driven by economic factors or by cuts in funding for public services, research, or innovation, but is primarily a reaction to the political situation.

“You look at what has happened in Israel over the past four years and it’s crazy, no matter how you look at it: October 7, the wars in Lebanon and Gaza, the reservists’ draft, Iran,” he said. “And on top of that, you look at the government allocating huge sums to ultra-Orthodox Jews. So, if you’re secular, you do your military service, you pay taxes, and you look into the future and ask yourself, ‘do I want to raise my kids here in Israel?’”

Ater makes no secret of his left-wing political commitment and wants to warn the public of the consequences of this brain drain.

“The Israeli economy depends heavily on human capital. We don’t have natural resources, oil or things of the sort, unlike Venezuela or Iran … As a citizen and as an economist, I want Israel to become a sane country again – a normal country.”

He added that, as Israel’s image around the world deteriorates, academics “suffer from a lot of boycotts” and that some “research collaborations are terminated because we are from Israel”.

...

If the ruling coalition is re-elected, Tamar*, 32, a product manager at a company specialising in AI, said she would seriously consider leaving the country with her husband and her one-year-old son.

The “endless wars”, the influence of Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and “Benjamin Netanyahu’s lies” have become unbearable, she said.

Israel is conducting a GENOCIDE of Palestinians, not a war against them.

Notice here that Israel has one of the hallmarks of fascist societies that is all to often swept under the rug, the main political dichotomy and point of friction is centered between an ultraconservative religious element of society that is given institutional power to provoke the ultrarightwing non-religious element of society into believing that religion is the problem not rightwing beliefs which alienates the broader public from being able to truly get behind either side and forces a suffocation of empathy.

“Because of the war Genocide, I can't sleep anymore,” she added. “My husband has served more than 400 days of reserve duty in the army for the past three years and I'm very angry at the government for allowing the ultra-Orthodox to avoid military service. I don’t recognise the country I grew up in anymore – even though my mother’s side of my family has lived in Jerusalem for 14 generations.”

You can see the people in this article cycling around and around this broken framing of the issue and finding no answers because of it, either they are religious and see the rise in atheism and its values as a threat against Judaism and a driver of violence or they are atheist/less conservatively religious and they think the real problem is religion in general. Both views are wrong, hateful and are conveniently focused entirely on the wrong thing.

As elections approach, Israelis are still traumatised by Hamas’ unprecedented attacks from October 7, 2023. Between those who constantly demand revenge and those who want to understand how such an attack could have happened, dialogue seems to have fractured. The right and the far right use a constant messianic and religious rhetoric to discredit anyone who opposes them.

Anybody who has a heart in Israel that still functions is smashed between a rightwing rock and a rightwing hard place....___

But one may find some dark humor in the plight of pundits on the right who have long maintained that, ackshually, Ukraine had no better friend than Trump. Take Washington Post columnist (and former George W. Bush speechwriter) Marc Thiessen, whose greatest hits include, “Putin is stalling and Trump is angry. It’s time for ‘maximum pressure’” (March 31, 2025), “Watch Trump make good on his Ukraine promises” (July 9, 2025), and “Putin made a big mistake with Trump” (September 25, 2025). In recent days, Thiessen has been mostly quiet on the subject; in his tweets, he has occasionally pushed back against inane anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia right-wing commentary but also chided Volodymyr Zelensky for being imprudently confrontational in response to Trump’s insults.

A pro-Trump, pro-Ukraine position has always required awkward mental gymnastics, but now it demands downright contortionism. In one cringeworthy moment, radio host and Fox News contributor Hugh Hewitt was caught in the middle of a Fox appearance when informed of Trump’s remark to the press that Ukraine needs a new president. Hewitt, visibly taken aback, conceded that it was “shocking,” but quickly bounced back to suggest that it was just “jaw-jaw”—Trump venting his frustrations about the “international economy” and diesel fuel prices. Not to worry, he reassured his audience: Zelensky is here to stay, and “Russia is the bad guy. The president knows that.” Are you sure, Hugh? Trump, at that point, was saying things like, “Zelensky could have settled this war many times—many, many times” and “I think, actually, Putin wants to make a deal more than Zelensky.” (Meanwhile, as anybody with a brain that hasn’t been fried by Trumpism can tell you, it’s Putin who has repeatedly rejected Zelensky’s offers for a ceasefire and direct talks.)

Leopards ate my pension...

Leopards ate my face, that is true, but what the Leopards say about the people who look and talk different than us is intriguing and gets us really scared so maybe the Leopards are right and God just intended for our faces to be eaten who knows! I also think that it is clear a lot of the Leopards are rich and if we are nice to them and backstab other poor people they won't eat us first so maybe the best strategy is after all to hand them power yet again.

But for many Trump-supporting farmers and ranchers, the president's decisions - even when they hit them economically - deserve the benefit of the doubt.

"We've all known this about Trump. He just kind of could be a little 'shoot, fire, aim,'" Wolfinger said. "I wish you could, you know, put the gun back and holster it and then think about it."

But, he said, "I think he's, for the most part, trying to run this country in the right direction".

diesel, lumber and steel costs. The cruelty and horrors are all ok I guess.

What, then, are we to do? Returning once again to Ahad Ha’am, we should first of all remember that just because the entire world believes something [a leopard is eating our faces] does not make it true. Only once we have internalized this can we find some consolation in our situation. Only then can we continue to fight and demand from ourselves the same high moral standards while shutting out the voices of those who would use our misfortunes to their benefit [and advance anti-leopard narratives]. This includes some of our own politicians, who are using irresponsible rhetoric to either criticize the government or defend it. What these “useful idiots” say has no bearing on the practice of our army in Gaza, but it does provide fodder to our enemies and should be discredited.

Our goal should not be to convince the rest of the world that we are right [and our faces are not clearly being eaten by leopards]. Our existence does not depend on a vote in the United Nations. It depends on our own belief in the righteousness of Jewish civilization [and letting leopards co-opt it in order to eat our faces]. Of course, we are not above criticism, and we must acknowledge and correct course when we deviate from our own standards. But remaining vigilant about our shortcomings is not the same as accepting guilt we don’t deserve. And so, when our children and grandchildren ask us how the whole world can believe there is a genocide if, in fact, there is no genocide, we should stand firm in the conviction of what we know to be true [our faces are being eaten by leopards, everyone else knows it and we are in denial about it].

This article is a textbook example of how people who are willingly letting a leopard eat their face rationalize doing so.
