10% is small? Wat? If someone reduced your salary by 10%, would you just go "oh, that's minimal! I won't even notice it!"?

And they aren't saying the market is getting smaller. Nowhere does phoronix report that. You're just making stuff up. With a more efficient workforce they should be able to pay more, get more work done, and handle more customers with the sane amount of people.

No. What they are doing is spreading the same work over fewer people who aren't getting a pay raise, meaning 10% decrease in personnel costs, which the upper management can pocket.

The ongoing US midterms could also shift the conversation depending on who comes out ahead.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of. The EU will breathe a sigh of relief that the dems won and simply go back to business as usual. "It won't happen again".

I learned today that maybe I should stop using Konsole... But which other terminal emulator provides such easy configuration and terminal splitting? I tried ghostty and kitty years ago hut their configs where in config files only which was immediately an uninstall.

I have convinced teams to switch to just after rewriting their makefiles in a fraction of the time and size. There have been some make die hards but they gave in to the team once they saw the justfiles.

Luckily we didn't have to write C or C++. I think the reason why that has so many build systems is because of the lack of a package manager. That entire world needs a cargo equivalent.

I talked to a frontender recently who said they had less pleasure writing frontend, because AI could make it look as good as they wanted in a fraction of the time. Has AI changed anything for you?

I was "encouraged" to use AI at work for frontend and while it output functional stuff, lifting the hood on the how, terrified me. 😅

This is the type of shit that haunts me. Imagine overloading ">>" for piping and hiding threading behind that. The idea was to create an async pipe, but nowhere are you aware of async or threading or whatever was chosen. You look at the code and think "of it's like piping to stdout" or whatever, only to find out that the method immediately returns.

Tracking down what the hell is happening with code that has such hidden side effects is a nightmare.

Are you still in the C++ world?

Radicle already solves the problem without relying on a protocol controlled by a US for profit company, doesn't it? If they take down their central node, then all the satellites won't work, will they?
