Especially so in Canada. The politics that affects like 95% of your daily life is local and provincial. It infuriates me when I hear people blame all their problems on the PM that are actually the responsibility of your local or provincial government. Blaming Trudeau (or now Carney) for Doug Ford’s faults.

Housing, healthcare, education, public transport, urban planning, welfare, labour standards? It’s all exclusive jurisdiction of the provinces.

You’re suggesting that it’s obvious why world cup-related travel would result in a larger fraction of visa applications denied than other travel? It’s not to me.

Compared with normal times, the world cup sees a much bigger proportion of people applying for tourist TRVs compared to work and study permits, and perhaps these have a higher rejection rate, which leads to a higher rejection rate overall. There is also the fact that the demographics of who is applying for world cup visitor visas may be a higher risk population than those who usually apply. In terms of the disparity between different countries themselves, this is quite normal that countries with higher risk of visa overstays, illegal work, etc, will have higher rejection rates.

Refusing visas and determining admissibility is an act of sovereignty, I don't really see anything here worthy of an investigation.

My past few employers have all had similar policies, it’s common in tech. I cannot take any company equipment over the Chinese border and we are strongly discouraged against bringing any personal equipment. The company has special burner laptops and phones for the few cases where we actually need a business trip to China.

Motorola has always been a mediocre phone developer. It's been better since they got absorbed into Lenovo, but they still aren't that popular or good.

Android security is so bad these days that GrapheneOS is basically the only reasonable option, so it is a welcome change to see a non-Google manufacturer working with them.

If you care about the sunlight then you don’t care what the clock says, you wake up with the sun.

Scientists are pretty consistent that changing the clocks is an idiotic idea, but Canadians (like many others) are just stubborn and resist change, and seek out excuses to continue resisting change.

I live in Asia now where they do not change clocks and it is so much better this way.
