Ikke helt rigtigt. Storcirkler på Mercator er kun rette linjer i nord-sydlig retningen, eller i øst-vest på ækvator. Når man bevæger sig på alle andre storcirkler vil kompasretningen altid ændre sig, og det tegner en kurve på Mercator.
